In honor of the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, I thought I would share a couple prayers for today, from a wonderful little book I am reading, titled: Maiden & Mother
To Our Lady of Mount Carmel
O MOST beautiful flower of Mount Carmel,
Fruitful Vine, Splendour of Heaven,
Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin,
assist me in this my necessity.
O Star of the Sea, help me and show me
herein you are my Mother.
O Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Queen of Heaven and Earth,
I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart
to succour me in this necessity;
there are none that can withstand your power.
O, show me herein you are my Mother;
O Mary, conceived without sin,
Pray for us you have recourse to thee.
(Three times)
Sweet Mother,
I place this cause in your hands.

Rejoice we all in the Lord, as we keep holiday in Mary’s honour; that blessed maiden whose feast makes angels rejoice and sets them praising the Son of God. Joyful the thoughts that well up from my heart, a King’s honour for thy theme.

God, who hast honoured the Order of Carmel by giving the most blessed Mother Mary, ever-virgin, that special title, grant to us this grace, that we who are today commemorating her with solemn observance may be counted worthy, under the shield of her protection, to attain everlasting happiness.
GRADUAL
Benedicta et venerabilis es, Virgo Maria: quae sine tactu pudoris inventa es mater Salvatoris. Virgo Dei Genitrix, quem totus non capit orbis, in tua se clausit viscera factus homo.
Mary, Virgin, you are blessed and worthy of our homage; for with maidenhood unsullied you became the Saviour’s Mother. God’s Virgin Mother! The whole wide world cannot contain him, yet he became man and shut himself within your womb.

Through you, God’s Mother, the life that was lost has been restored to us. You took your child from heaven and gave him to the world to be its Saviour.

Neat! Did you stop to visit the Carmelites’ Convent while you were here in NE? It’s beautiful.
Yes!! We LOVE the Convent and all the nuns!!! All of my hubby’s brothers have said their very first Mass there, and my son received his First Communion there as well. I’ll be posting pictures soon! 🙂

Aubrey ~ That’s wonderful! They are such prayer warriors! In fact, they were praying for my last 3 pregnancies too… I was on bed rest with our first daughter, and I know it was all the prayers that got me through. Did you ever see the post of mine, where I mentioned that we sent our daughter back to them, through the turn, during our first visit in ’04?
Ok… I just found that post… I’ll clip and paste the story here:
During our first visit with them, May 23rd 2004, on the occasion of Fathers First Mass, Twinkle Toes was only 10 months old, and Mother Superior let me send her back through the turn (a device in cloistered monasteries and convents that shields the visitor from the monk or nun, but permits one to pass notes or small objects in and out). It was so cute! Normally, you or I would not be aloud inside the walls of a cloistered convent, under the penalty of excommunication, without the permission of the bishop, but an infant cannot commit mortal sin, and is therefore excluded from this! They passed her around for about 20-30 minutes on the other side of the grill, where I could see her, and then I went back to the turn to get her back. I knocked to let them know I was waiting, and then I just heard giggling. A couple minutes later, it started to turn and sitting inside was TT’s shoes! They had kept my baby, and sent me back her shoes. Eventually they sent her back to me! Anyhow, that was her first visit to the Carmel…
