Picture Perfect

We all really enjoyed having my sister Julianna over today! When she first arrived, we spent a few hours in the kitchen baking Lemon Bars, Key Lime Bars and Raspberry Bars. (We cheated and used these mixes, but they turned out great!) Then we made a couple batches of Rocky Road Fudge using Sarah’s Never Fail Fudge Recipe with walnuts, and then adding a cup of mini marshmallows just before pouring it into the pan to cool— oohhhh, it turned out SO good!! Each batch yielded two pounds of fudge.

When we were all done baking, and waiting for everything to cool, Julianna read about a whole stack of picture books to her nieces and nephews. While she was reading I was playing around with the settings on my camera and snapped these pictures. I can’t seem to figure out how to capture the natural light without making the picture too blurry. I need to find my manual… (any suggestions?) Blurry and all, I still thought they turned out precious.

Julianna will be moving away next month. We sure will miss her !

*And my boys are getting their hair cut right now!! It really needed to be done!

What a neat day! I think your boys look very handsome and I think their hair looks fine. Noah’s hair grows so fast; his hair cuts always sneak up on me, too! 🙂

Thoughts for your camera… when you are trying to catch the natural light and it is sort of darkish… tripod. tripod. tripod. That’s all!!! 🙂 Oh, and sometimes it helps to use the timer function with the tripod to prevent the wiggle of your finger on the camera… Hope it helps!! 🙂

Don’t remind me about the haircuts. I was going to keep things stress-free today. Sigh.

I love that first picture of Juliana and your kids. I saw it on her blog and wondered who took the picture.

With the camera, take a test shot with the flash down in auto then check to see what aperture/shutter/iso speed your camera selected. Then I try it for myself in manual. The main thing is to open the aperture as much as possible. (4 or 4.5 maybe) Then match up the shutter speed to get the right exposure. Hope that helps. Also, it helps to change the white balance on your camera to incadescant if you are inside.

I LOVE these!! 🙂 I’m still practicing and learning the same things you’re working on. It’s all such a puzzle.

Merry Christmas to all of you!

The first picture looks so warm and cozy, makes me wish I was sitting there too! I am sorry she is moving away… 🙁 Everyone seems to be moving lately, huh?
I know just what you mean about the blur, I have the same problem. I will read the other comments now and see what others said, lol…

What a beautiful day! I am very close with my two sisters as well and I always love “sharing” my family with them!

And I am so glad that the fudge worked out well for you too! I’m so glad that I posted those recipes this year; I’m glad that they were such a success and treat!

    Best,
    Sarah

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
