I know the Christmas season has just ended, and we have a little time before lent begins, but I wanted to post a quick reminder in case any of you are planning on making a Jesus Tree this year.
The Jesus Tree is such a wonderful way to do a Lenten Bible Study with your children. We really enjoyed it last year!
I spoke with the owner of Scripture Trees (a very sweet Catholic mother) and they are still selling their kits, though their inventory is getting low and they won’t be making any more until next year. The price is the same as when I purchased ours a couple years ago, just $10 plus shipping. Scripture Trees is a small family business and she said they don’t have a website (yet) so you can either email them at scripturetrees[at]usfamily[dot]net, or call 651-426-2174 to place an order. (You will probably need to mail a check before shipment, so hurry. Lent begins February 25th!)
Also, as I made our ornaments last year, I posted pictures of them, as well as the bible readings (we used the New Catholic Picture Bible (NCPB) by Father Lovasik) and an activity and/or coloring page for each day. For convenience, I just added the links to those posts to my sidebar, and I’ll leave them up until Easter.
I love this idea, and I think it was toward the end of your series last year that I found your blog! Thanks for the reminder, we will definitely be doing this! 🙂
Thank you for taking the time to post about this. We were introduced to it last year after seeing your posts, and ordered ours then. We are very excited to use it this year.
Oooh. I can’t wait to read your Lenten posts, too!
I wanted to ask you a question regarding roses and St. Therese. My husband and I were married June 16th 2007, on the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I was almost forty one when I was married and my husband almost forty three.
We have been trying to conceive a child since our wedding day without any success (I found out last February after surgery that I have endometriosis stage 4). About one month after we were married, I prayed a novena to St. Therese asking for a rose if God was hearing our prayers for the gift of a child and if we would be parents someday.
Well at my twin neices baptism a short time later I found a plastic red rose in a pew at the church. My husband found another plastic red rose at his work place.
What do you think? A message from St. Therese? Or not? It’s now been a year and a half and we still haven’t been able to concieve yet. I feel a bit sad and discouraged.
Could you please pray for us? Thank you so much! You and your family will be in my prayers especially my daily rosary as well.
May God Bless you and your lovely family.
Love,
Maria Therese
I can’t wait to get mine in! I ordered 4 to have some for friends! Thanks!
We used the “Lenten Cross” idea in _Lent and Easter in the Domestic Church_ by the Fourniers two years ago. It is just like a Jesse or Jesus tree, only not as permanent. The “bird’s eye view” you get of the basic Bible stories is such a good idea, especially with so many children of so many ages. Everyone gets to hear the old stories again and get whatever they can from them. Your Jesus tree looks just beautiful. You are a good memory maker for your dear ones, Jessica! 🙂
Wow – we were too late to order the kit, but all the information you provided in each weekly post (last year) is awesome! We used the NCPB for our Jesse Tree readings, and this follows perfectly!
Thank you for all of the great ideas, and your kids are so cute too!I have started a lenten tree and hope to finish it by easter 😉
