FOR TODAY: January 19th, 2009

Outside my Window… it is another beautiful day. Even though it is cold outside, I am loving the weather. Especially the SUN!!!

I am thinking… about all the emails that have piled up in my inbox. I am dying to write you all back, but it may take a little time… I’m curious, how do you all keep up with correspondence? Emails, phone calls, letters, thank you cards, etc… I could really use a few tips!!

I am thankful…that Captain has FINISHED his Auditory Processing classes and his challenge has been completely FIXED!!! Last year, on Ash Wednesday, he was tested and only scored 8th month of Kindergarten for reading. Last Thursday, less than one year later, he was tested again and scored 3rd grade 3rd month! Now all he needs is lots and lots of practice to improve his speed. I am SO proud of him!!

From the kitchen… ooooohhhhhh. Yesterday at the March for Life, a dear friend gave me a whole bag of her amazing biscotti. It has ruined my will power, and Wednesday is just two days away.

From the school room… Let’s see… Captain is reading lots of books to hubby and I, I am still working on the 10 Commandments Lapbook with Rascal, and the girls will be having some “Winter Fun” with Little Saints.

I am creating…nothing at the moment, but with Little Flowers Thursday night, I had better get busy!!

I am going… to try and post some of the photos from our March for Life yesterday.

I am wearing… a long gray sweat pant type skirt and an old black maternity turtleneck. (I need to do laundry!)

I am reading… I haven’t quite finished Boys Should Be Boys: 7 Secrets to Raising Healthy Sons. I got distracted when my birthday present (to myself), Haystack Full of Needles, A Catholic Home Educator’s Guide to Socialization, arrived!! I started it last night, and I am already half way through it. What a great book!!! I am also reading Saints at the Dinner Table, which I hope to review soon, and I am also hoping to start a book that my dear hubby gave me for Christmas, The Domestic Church: Room by Room A Mother’s Study Guide. So many great books, so little time!!!

I am hoping… that my knee gets better soon. I tried working out with 5lb weights, and I think I hurt my knee doing squats. Oops! I am totally bummed since I can’t do my whole workout now… I had not missed a day until yesterday, and although I tried, I just couldn’t do it.

I am hearingMarie Bellet playing quietly on my computer as I type. My little ones are napping, and the older boys are outside with their daddy. (He has today off!)

Around the house…lots of laundry that needs to be done after a super busy weekend.

One of my favorite things… my double jogging stroller. It sure makes going for walks, with 5 little ones, much easier!

A Few Plans For This Week

  • Mrs. K will be coming again tomorrow and Wednesday to work with Rascal and Twinkle Toes.
  • Attend Mass in tomorrow, for Inauguration Day, and pray for our new president.
  • Little Flowers is Thursday night.
  • I am also hoping to attend our homeschool group’s “Meeting and Ladies Night Out” on Friday.

let me know what you think about “haystack” – actually we just had a mtg based on her book to help kick off some things in our area. i say *we* but it was one go-getter mom. she read it, raved about it, and is now putting it into action. i need to get a copy.

love the sweet pea w/the balloon too :o)

Regarding correspondence, try delete delete delete delete.

Ok. I’m kidding. I am way behind too. It’s impossible.

Sorry about your knee. I found when doing videos that the squats were too fast and I couldn’t pay enough attention to form, and whammo, out for 6 weeks! So, now I do them much slower than the video pace (if I do them!).

Also, look up how-to videos for good form.

Hmmm, your book interests run along mine. Loved Haystack, disliked Saints at the Dinner Table, can’t wait to hear what you think about Boys and Domestic Church…those are my next planned purchases.

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
