Getting Ready for Lent

by | Feb 21, 2009 | Lent | 12 comments

Can you believe that Lent begins this coming Wednesday?! Are you ready?? I’m not, but I am slowly getting there.

Our Jesus Tree is ready to go! It was so nice to just pull it out of the closet and hang it on the wall, versus the countless hours I spent putting it together last year. Yay!!!

I also just purchased and downloaded the *brand new* Lent Faith Folder from Faith Folders for Catholics. I was so excited when I received the email tonight announcing that it was available, especially since my boys *loved* working on the Advent Faith Folder. Right now, my printer is busy printing out the 114 pages that came with the download… It looks like it is chock-full with great content!

I’ve also been gathering all of our Picture Books and CD’s for Lent, and I placed an order for The Way of the Cross for Children. We are planning on attending the Stations of the Cross each Friday after Mass, but I am sure this DVD will be a nice addition for the rest of the week!

OH, and I still need to put together our Lenten Calendar. I have quite a few things I need to get done first, so it may not happen until Monday… We’ll see. =)

    Jessica,
I never leave comments on your blog, but read it almost every day. Just wanted to thank you for all of the great ideas. Our family has benefited greatly from your posts. I pray that God repays you tenfold for the wonderful gifts you post like this. I love that you are like a “one stop shop” leaving links and tutorials for all of the activities and crafts that you do with your family. I just ordered a lap book and have my tree from Scripture Trees all ready to go. I would have never known about these ideas without your blog. So thank you again and God bless your lovely family!

Thank you for sharing the Stations of the Cross DVD. I am adding it to my wishlist. Pro Multis Media does a great job with their children’s DVDs (at least they did with the Traditional Mass for Children DVD that they produced).

Cathy ~ Thank you for your kind words! I love sharing what we are up to, and I am glad to hear that it is helpful to others!! I hope you have a blessed Lent!

Christine ~ We have the Traditional Mass for Children DVD and *LOVE* it!!! In fact, we have even loaned it out to friends who didn’t understand the Latin Mass and they all learned so much from this DVD. I *highly* recommend it to everyone, not just children! I also really like their Sing-Along as well. Such beautiful videos!!! I am anxious to watch The Way of the Cross!

Thanks for the DVd recommendations. That is so helpful. I would love the folder as well, but I don’t think my printer is up to it. 🙂

Jessica, thanks for the ideas, and congrats to your son who just made his first confession and first communion. And just before Lent! How beautiful! I was just wondering what age group the faith folders are for. My kids are still young (oldest is in Kindergarten + 2 preschoolers), so I wasn’t sure if it would be too advanced for them … Could you let me know? Thanks! God bless!

At what age do the kids really start using and understanding the faith folders. I don’t think my 2 1/2 would get much out of them this year?

Sarah and Cindy ~ I will be using the Faith Folder with just my oldest two (ages 8 & 7). When they were younger, just following the activities with our Lenten Calendar (and ready a few Lenten Picture Books) was plenty, though the Jesus Tree was sure a nice addition last year.
    I hope that helps?!

Jennifer ~ The folder could be made without printing our all the pages… There are lots of “options” for each mini book etc, and you could choose before printing which one you want to use, and also read any directions on the computer to significantly reduce the amount of pages that would need to be printed. Since I am having both my boys make the lapbook, I figured I’d just print the whole thing out and let them choose.

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
