Little Flowers Girls’ Club ~ Easy Craft Ideas for Wreath II

by | Jun 17, 2009 | Crafts, Little Flowers, Little Flowers Wreath II | 7 comments

As I mentioned in a previous post, I decided to add another craft (in addition to our notebook pages) to our Little Flower’s meetings this coming year. To keep it easy, I decided to order actual craft kits from Oriental Trading. I thought I would take a second and share the craft kits I choose in case any of you are looking for some ideas.

I tried my best to link to each kit, but the links just wouldn’t seem to work. So, instead, I added a picture of each kit and made the name of the kit bold, that way you can use the search box over at Oriental Trading to find the actual kits. If you end up placing an order, be sure to search for a coupon code first. I ended up placing two separate orders since I had a coupon for $20 off a $69.00 purchase plus free shipping. (I also ordered quite a few prizes for the year including a great set of bible themed sticker sheets.) Using the coupon codes and free shipping really helps keep the cost down and makes it quite affordable.

Oh, one other thing… The kits come in sets of 12, so this works best with a group of about 8-12 girls. With more, you would need to order multiple sets, and with less, it probably wouldn’t be that cost effective.

Anyhow, here is a look at the crafts we will be making this year:

1. Flower: Lily ~ Virtue: Mercy ~ Saint: St. Faustina ~ Color: Cream

Since angel’s are often agents of God’s Mercy, I choose a Guardian Angel Bracelet kit for this meeting. Other options would include a Mosaic Cross Scene or Alice’s St. Faustina Spoon Saint.

2. Flower: Yucca ~ Virtue: Courage ~ Saint: Blessed Margaret Pole ~ Color: Pine Green

Blessed Margaret Pole was a lady in waiting. I thought the girls would really enjoy making Tiaras! I ordered the Tiara Assortment and Self Adhesive Jewels for this craft.

3. Flower: Tulip ~ Virtue: Joy/Mirthfulness ~ Saint: St. Clare ~ Color: Bright Orange

I had a hard time finding a pre-made kit for this meeting. However, after I realized that this meeting will take place in October, the month of the Holy Rosary, I opted for this cute little Rosary Box. We will also discuss the Joyful mysteries!

4. Flower: Daisy ~ Virtue: Generosity ~ Saint: St. Katherine Drexel ~ Color: Leaf Green

Since the flower for this month is the Daisy, I ordered the Daisy Stacking Candle for the girls to put together. I actually ordered 2 candles for each girl, that way that can make one to keep and one to give away as a gift.

5. Flower: African Violet ~ Virtue: Prudence ~ Saint: St. Angela Merici ~ Color: Violet Purple

I had a hard time deciding on a craft for this meeting. I ended up opting for the Wood Recipe Card Holders. I figure we can paint them to look like African Violets.

6. Flower: Iris ~ Virtue: Wisdom ~ Saint: St. Teresa Benedicta (Edith Stein) ~ Color: Silver

Since the virtue for this month is Wisdom, I thought a bookmark would be very appropriate! I ordered the Beaded Cross Bookmark and it is even silver, the color for this meeting. Isn’t it cute?!?

7. Flower: Aster ~ Virtue: Justice ~ Saint: Bl. Mary of the Incarnation ~ Color: Gold

The Wreath 2 Craft Companion suggested making a Shell Cross for this meeting since “God presented Himself as a sacrifice of atonement through faith in His Blood. He did this to demonstrate His justice… — Rm 3:25” I was excited to see that Oriental trading had a Seashell Cross Kit, perfect!

8. Flower: Poppy ~ Virtue: Loyalty ~ Saint: St. Lucy ~ Color: Poppy Red

Since the flower for this meeting is the Poppy, I ordered the Memorial Poppies with Poem . I plan to replace the poem with the memory verse for virtue of Loyalty, or some other corresponding quote.

Since the feast of St. Lucy is celebrated in December, I thought about moving this particular meeting to December and making Saint Lucia Crowns again, but since I am due at Christmas, I decided against having a meeting during December this year.

9. Flower: Lotus ~ Virtue: Perseverance ~ Saint: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton ~ Color: Peach

I thought the Flower Lei Craft Kit would be a fun one for our last meeting! We’ll just say that this particular lei is made with lotus flowers. I think the girls will love making them!

I also choose a second craft for our last meeting, a little something for the girls to make to give to their moms at the tea party. I’m not going to post a picture of that one, since some of the moms might see it here. 😉

What wonderful ideas! I want to start a group here with our first graders next year. I was going to put together a plan and see if the Catholic school we attend would allow us to have a class for the girls. We do have girl scouts but this is quite different, I don't think it should be a conflict. If I get shot down I can always start a group at home! Thanks again for taking the time to post all your sessions for Wreath 1 and the new crafts for the next wreath. It is truly inspiring.

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
