Prayer of a Mother with Child

by | Oct 14, 2009 | Prayer, Pregnancy | 15 comments

Lord God, Creator of all things, I give this baby to Thee, O Jesus, that she may be more Thine than mine. Look upon her, even now, as Thy beloved child. Prepare this little soul and enrich her, that she may be a worthy tabernacle for the Holy Ghost. Sanctify me that I may sanctify this baby and that all of us – I, the baby, her father – may sanctify each other. Increase Thy life in me, in order that my little baby may benefit from the overflowing grace in the soul of her mother. Please accept and sanctify my discomforts, now and in the days to come, which I, as a mother, wish to offer Thee. Holy Angel of my little baby, escort her to Baptism as soon as she is born; preserving her from every danger now, and later from everything that might stain her soul. O Mary, be her mother, and guide and protect her always. Watch over her Saint Joseph, as you watched over the Divine Infant. Amen.

Beautiful! Thanks for posting this. I'm going to print it out for daily prayer. I'll likely have to make that part about the discomforts may daily mantra very soon!

This wonderful prayer is very timely as I sit for the second day awaiting the news from afar that my first great grandchild has arrived. Please keep the mom and dad in your prayers hopefully that all will go well. It has been a very long labor. Blessings. PJ

Thank you for this prayer. I am having mild contractions and am awaiting for the arrival of our third blessing (first girl!) any day. This helped so much and helped me tame some of those fears of child birth.
    God Bless.

Thank you Jessica for all of the prayers! A beautiful healthy eight pound baby girl (great grandbaby) finally made her debut! She is chubby and has little rings of fat on hands and arms. No wonder she was so comfy in her little nest and didn't want to come out to play. Mom and Dad are both fine and first time grandparents are busting their buttons! Me? I am going to take a nap after all of that stress. Again. Thank you for your prayers! With much appreciation! +JMJ+ …….. PJ

Hi, Jessica! Thank you for posting this prayer – I am 14 weeks pregnant with my fourth baby, and all of the prayers you have posted in the past few months have been a source of comfort to me…I had a rough first trimester as we discovered that I had twins, but lost one and weren't sure if the other would make it or not. Everything has turned out fine for the second baby – we are so thankful! I finally posted my pregnancy announcement on my blog (http://artofbeingmama.blogspot.com/2009/10/best-kind-of-news.html), and I included both the prayer and picture you posted with a link to your blog- I am new to blogging,so I hope this was okay and that you don't mind! Thanks for all you share – you are an encouragement to me as a mom and homeschooler!

God bless you and your little one on the way!

HI, I love the prayer card. I just found out recently that I am pregnant with our second baby. We are hoping for a boy–but a girl again would be just as nice.

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.
