My Daybook :: June 9, 2010

Outside my window… their is a big concrete truck and quite a few contractors working on our foundation!

I am thankful… that I was well enough to attend the Blue Knights Festival and our Little Flowers Mother/Daughter Tea Party!  I got *really* sick on Friday which I think was due to food poisoning.  I didn’t think I was going to make it anywhere over the weekend and was trying to think of who could take my place at the Tea Party with my girls.  🙁   I was so thankful that I woke up Saturday morning feeling almost completely better, just very weak.

I am hoping and praying… for my friends, Andrew and Julie, who were both in my class at Christendom.  They are trying to adopt a little girl right now!  Would you please keep them in your prayers?

From the kitchen… All sorts of things as I work on emptying my cupboards.  I think pretty soon the inspectors are going to be fighting over who gets to come up here for our inspections. . . At least until my oven is torn out! 😉

From the learning rooms… The boys are finishing up a couple projects this week and then they will be done for the summer.  My “learning room” will soon be my temporary “kitchen/dining room” so I am looking forward to putting the majority of the school books away for awhile.

Living the Liturgical Year at Home… I just realized I never did get a chance to post the compilation of recipes for June over at Catholic Cuisine.  Hopefully I will have a chance to do so this week.

I am creating… room in my closet for some of my dishes and other kitchen items.  Where am I going to put everything?!

I am reading… the latest issue of Mater et Magistra and finding it completely inspiring, as usual!

Our little Rose… is crawling!  I can’t believe it!! She isn’t really sitting up on her own very well, but I think that is because she just CAN’T sit still, and wants to move around.

Noticing that… there have been quite a few searches for “School Room” lately.  Right now my school room is a bit of a mess, as we wrap up our school year, but you can see what it looked like at the beginning of the year here:  The New School Room.

Towards personal care… Last week I purchased a package of Crest 3D White Whitestrips and, after just a few days of using them, am so amazed at how much whiter my teeth look already.  (I had tried a generic brand a few years ago and didn’t notice any difference.)  {Big Smile!!}

Now, if only I can find something for the dark circles and wrinkles around my eyes.  I know some extra sleep would probably really help, but in the meantime I am going to try a couple products from Neutrogena.

One of my favorite things… The Tiddliwinks Brown Dot Moses Basket!   My Brother & Sister-in-law purchased this off my baby shower registry and it has been one of my absolute favorite new pieces of “Baby Gear.”  Unlike Snuggles, Rose does not love the swing or bouncy chair (she refuses to spend any time in them) and prefers to spend time in her little basket, both sleeping and playing.   I love the color of the wicker, and it is so convenient to move around and take places as well.

(Note:  For those of you that have emailed asking about the basket, my only complaints are that the handles flop over into the basket (so I just tuck them behind the fabric) and this past week there is a little break in the top wicker (I’m not sure what you call it) piece. I’m hoping I can use something to “tape” it back together.  However, I am really not surprised since we have used it SO much, and I thought it was a great basket for the price.)

A few plans for the rest of the week:

  • Return Books to the Library and pick up a few more books to finish up “Z” Week.
  • I have a dentist appointment on Friday.
  • My sister’s (JoAnn & Mary) Graduate from High School on Friday night!!
  • There is a Baby Shower on Saturday for my friend Trina.  (It is going to be at Marci’s house!!  She has been really, really busy!!)
  • And on Sunday, after Mass, we are headed to a 1st Birthday party for my friend Ann-Marie’s twin boys!
Add to that our last week of school, and contractors working each day, and it is another very busy week!  🙂

A Picture thought I am sharing:

It has taken me most of the day (a minute here and a minute there) to get through this Daybook post, so here are a few pictures from today!

(Note:  Rascal took this one. . .   I wasn’t about to go out there and start snapping pictures!)

Oh, Jessica, I'm so sorry to hear that you were sick! That's miserable! I'm glad that it passed by quickly, though.

If you find something that works for wrinkles and the dark circles let me know! I could really use the help myself, lol! 😉

I laughed when you said that Rascal took the photos of the outside. I hear ya!

Try Burt's Bees products. They are very safe. I just researched some products and ditched my Neutrogena after the ranking on their products were found to be "hazardous".

For the life of me…I cannot remember the site but will look back into it and pass it along. I found it very interesting…the site was non-profit and neither did it sell nor promote any particular product line.

    Just passing along the info.

Hooray for concrete trucks! SO much fun and entertainment. It looks and sounds like that will be some addition when all is said and done.

I enjoyed your Tea and Festival photos in the last few posts so much. We just had ours today and I hope to get photos up tomorrow.

I never thought that teeth whitening was important, but over the last few years I love using mine whenever I'm feeling a little dull. Gives you something to smile about! I get the 'professional' ones from the dentist and whenever I need just a little bit I do two treatments and see an instant difference.

That basket is just darling. Of course, Rose in it is just darling as well 🙂

This is that safe make up website I had previously mentioned. I found it really helpful and after 41 yrs…changed some of my ways!

P.S. Whenever my vanity sink would clog, (every house we owned), it was always my side. Dear hubby kept saying it was all of the products. I switched to natural products…no clogged drains. Scary thought!

As someone who has done some of these major improvements to our home, I can sympathize with you and I will say it is a long process until it is done and then you will be so thrilled and forget all of the stress of it all. It is SO worth it! So hang in there and breath deeply as much as you can…..God Bless!

Okay, I'm going to do the tooth-whitening thing myself. I just needed a reliable critic for the stuff!

As for the circles and wrinkles, I find that the most effective thing for those is a good Photoshop program and hiding my husband's glasses (just kidding)!

Beautiful pictures! Thank you so much for sharing. I find your blog very inspiring.
If you don't mind my asking; where did you get your daughter's parasol? We have been searching and can't seem to find one.

    God Bless,
    Jeannie

I use the garnier nutriese eye roller thing and it works great for dark circles. I'm not sure if it does anything with wrinkles. I would also like to whiten my teeth but I am nursing and hadn't been able to get a straight answer from anyone about whether or not its okay. Did you ask anyone or just go for it. Things like that are frustrating because people just say to wait until your aren't pregnant or breastfeeding but I've been doing one or the other for the last 7 years! 😉 Your family is beautiful and I love your blog! Thanks!! 🙂

Patty ~ Thanks for the recommendations! I will have to check out that site!

Nadja ~ You'll have to let me know what you think!

Jeannie ~ I'm sorry, I can't. We borrowed them from a friend of mine. I will try and remember to ask her the next time I see her.

Tracy ~ I can relate! The only "break" I've had from being nursing or pregnant in the past 10 1/2 years was when I miscarried a year and a half ago, and only for 3-4 months at that. The Whitestrips were actually recommended to me by my Dentist when I asked about having it done Professionally. He said they work nearly as well for just a portion of the cost. He also said it was just fine to use them while nursing. (I don't think I asked about pregnancy?)

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
