Happy Palm Sunday!
Wow! Looking back at my Palm Sunday post from 2008, today is looking very similar:
So far today we:
- Attended an early (7am) Palm Sunday Mass (It was SO nice! We really should make the extra effort to attend this particular Mass on a weekly basis!)
- Went out to Breakfast at Marie Calendars (I can’t remember the last time we ate out as a family… It’s been awhile! I loved all the stares we got as we walked through the restaurant with six little ones in tow. 😉 Oh and guess what! Our whole family was able to eat for $23!! Every breakfast on the menu was on special for only $4.99, so we ordered 4 meals, and 2 coffees, and still couldn’t finish everything!)
- Lit Candle in Prayer Corner
- Made Palm Crosses
- Burned Last years Palms
- Read story

- Did our Lenten Calendar activities
- Enjoyed the beautiful weather outside (Well, at least it’s not raining! We stopped by the river to see the ducks on the way home.)
Still to do:
- Palm Procession while singing “All Glory Laud & Honor”
- Place Palms in place of honor
Finish the last of the Jesus Tree Symbols to post tonight(I LOVE that these are all made and can be reused every year!)- Make a Spring Cleaning list of things that need to be done the next 3 days (We did some Spring Cleaning last week, but there is still more to do…)
- Finalize plans for Holy Week
- Watch movie with with hubby (It’s SUNDAY!)
- Get lots of rest so I can
be ready to start that cleaning tomorrow!get up early for Rose’s echocardiogram tomorrow morning.
We also are going to:
- Make another Palm of Palms, like we did last year.
- Bake a cake and sing Happy Birthday to Hubby (He had a birthday this past week, and wanted to save his cake for Sunday, since he gave it up for Lent.)
- Have cake, served with Fig Bibles and Palm Sundaes for dessert

P.S. You may notice that my blog looks a little different… Apparently it is not a good idea to mess around with html code at 2 in the morning while nursing a fussy baby. While doing so I accidentally deleted my whole template. {{{sigh}}} I fixed it as best as I could with the time I had, but I will probably be making more modifications over the next couple weeks.
7 am mass! Yikes, you go girl! We barely made it on time to 10am mass this morning, hehe…
Holy cow, 7am Mass is quite impressive!!! We love going out to eat with kids…we are quite the conversation piece. I always respond with, "But we only have four!"

Yeah for you! Glad you had a good Sunday. I really kind of like the new template. The tabs at the bottom of the banner look very neat and tidy and I really like the background!

I love early Mass but I live with a houseful of night owls. Only 2 of the 8 of us are "morning larks." 🙂
Does your parish not use last year's palms for Ash Wednesday? Of course I am only familiar with my own parish but the first week of February they begin asking for the previous year's palms and have baskets set up for them by the doors. Father burns them before Ash Wednesday, blesses them again, and then uses them to impose the ashes.
Thanks for the link to the Palm Crosses. I was trying to remember how to make them (and wasn't having much luck on my own). Also, the blog looks great! I am trying to get my own started but I know nothing about html, especially in the wee hours of the night (or is it morning?). Thanks for sharing.
Hello. I've been reading your blog for some time now, and I really enjoy gleaning ideas for homeschool and homechurch. Thanks for taking time in your surely busy life to share with all of us! Just wanted to comment on the html-thing – I noticed that something had changed too, but mainly that the blog loads so much faster now than before, which is a good thing for me 🙂

I noticed that you said that your hubby decided to wait until Sunday to have his b-day cake since he gave that up…I have heard this in the past, but not 100% sure, but are Sundays days we are "allowed" to enjoy what we gave up? I can be emailed at [email protected]
According to the Fisheaters website under Food in Lent : "Sundays, of course, are always free of fasting and abstinence; even in the heart of Lent, Sundays are about the glorious Resurrection."
If you count the days in Lent from Ash Wednesday to Easter, you would get 40 days, not counting any of the Sundays. Hope that helps!
