My Daybook ~ December 8th

by | Dec 9, 2008 | Daybook | 8 comments

It has been awhile since I have posted my daybook… Three weeks to be exact. Little did I know then, how hard that week (and the weeks following) would end up being. Anyhow, I’ve missed my daybook posts, and so I am going to give it a shot once again…

FOR TODAY:
December 8th, 2008
~ The Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Outside my Window… it is dark now, but I can see the glow of our Christmas lights. We always wait till Christmas Eve to turn our lights on, but this year we have been in need of the extra cheer and so we turned them on even before Advent started. We will wait till Christmas Eve to decorate our tree but in the meantime we have Purple lights on it for Advent, and it looks so pretty!

I am thinking… about so many things, and yet trying not to think at the same time.

From the school room… Since we no longer need to rush to finish by June, I have cut back on the assignments for the month of December so we can celebrate Advent and Christmas more fully. I am hoping to spend the rest of the month reading lots of books, making lots of crafts, doing lots of baking, and incorporating lots of prayer into each day. I also purchased an Advent Lapbook for my boys which is awesome!

I am thankful… for my Catholic faith. With out faith, I don’t know how one would be able to cope with the loss of a child.

From the kitchen… lots of yummy treats, the latest being Bumble Bee Cookies in honor of St. Ambrose.

I am creating… our Christ Candle. This year it will be white with just a gold wax Chi Rho added. Simple, but beautiful!

I am going… to really miss my sister and her family. It was nice having them in town for a couple weeks, but it was so hard to see them leave this past Thursday since we rarely ever get to see them.

(All of my parents grandchildren, together!)

I am wearing… a light gray sweater, a long dark gray skirt, black boots and scarf, and dangling gray pearl earrings.

I am readingThe Practice of the Presence of God which Father N. gave me this past Friday when I met with him.

I am hoping… that no one else asks me if I am over my morning sickness yet. I feel horrible when I respond with a tidal wave of tears…

I am also hoping to catch up on my correspondence. There are a few of you that I am sure are waiting to hear back from me, and for some reason I am having the hardest time writing letters. Lately, it has been so much easier to talk on the phone… Nevertheless, I want you all to know how much your prayers and encouragement have meant to me. Thank you!

I am hearing… the heater click on and off every now and then. We have a fire in the fireplace, but it is still super cold! I guess there may actually be snow this weekend?!? Weird!

Around the house…there are lots of signs that Christmas is coming: Advent Calendars; our Jesse Tree; the Advent wreath; baskets of picture books; and the beginnings of our Nativity, to name a few! Even with the ridiculous amount of laundry that has been piling up, I just love how cozy our home feels.

One of my favorite things… is watching my boys “play Mass”!

A Few Plans For This Week

  • Today we attended Mass for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. After Mass we went over to some friends for an all white lunch. Marci & I had a nice time visiting (and playing with her new toy) while the children all watched Bernadette: the Princess of Lourdes!
  • The tutor came today, and will be working with the boys tomorrow and Wednesday as well.
  • Tomorrow I have my follow-up appointment with the doctor. After that I will be taking dinner to a dear friend who just delivered her adorable baby boy. And after that, it is Bunco time!
  • Later this week the girls and I have Little Flowers, for which I need to prepare at some point. The theme is Love of God and Roses, so I plan on making Rose Shaped Cupcakes for our snack time! Yum!
  • There are also the feasts of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Lucy to prepare for, and celebrate, as well!
  • Whew! It looks like it is going to be another busy week!

A picture thought I am sharing:

Thank you Josh and Sandra for the beautiful roses!

I hope you don’t mind my saying that I am so sorry for your loss. I didn’t get a chance to say it earlier and then I didn’t want to bring it up. But I am so sorry. We have lost one and I know that it was so hard, but faith will definitely bring you through it and it will get easier.
Your plans for advent sound so exciting. You are such a good mommy. I always star your posts in my Google Reader for ideas for next year. I’m a little too overwhelmed to take on too much this year, since it’s our first real year of celebrating Advent. We’re keeping it simple, but I hope to add a few new things each year.

Hi Jessica, Love your daybook posts! I see a couple of priests in the making there in that “Mass scene!” I also noticed that I am showing up as one of your Top Commentators! Wow, I didn’t realize I had commented enough times!
    Have a great day. ~Angela

Thank you, to all of you! Yesterday was probably not the best day to attempt the daybook, since I had had a rather hard few days… I appreciate your encouragement!!

Juli ~ I am glad that you are not starting with too much. Our traditions have developed and increased over the past 8 years, and we are *never* able to get to everything that I would like.

Angela ~ I would love it if one of my boys became a priest someday… With all my hubby’s brothers being priests, they think about it often. 🙂 Also, thanks for the comments!! My top commenters widgit is based on the last 500 comments that were left, and so it is constantly rotating. Those that leave frequent comments can usually make it on the list fairly quick. 🙂

    Hi, Jessica

Glad to see your post! The picture of your boys playing mass made me smile. Wouldn’t it be an honor to give a son to the priesthood? If they do come to the seminary in Nebraska, you’ve always got a place to stay when you visit! 😉

    Hope you are feeling well!

I LOVE those Advent lapbooks, what a great site, I marked it as a favorite and will have to do those next year. The other lapbooks they had are very nice too. Thanks for the link.

All the pictures are adorable. Love the Mass playing. We always use the stairs as pews. just because they are in rows. (we don’t have the nice dress-ups you have though!) Our Mass play is more taking our babies to church when playing house!! 🙂

I just found this blog a few days ago and I’m so glad I did! I can’t stop coming back to it. You have so much wonderful information for me to learn about Catholic traditions that I would love to start in our family. I’m a cradle Catholic who learned the most about our faith when I went through RCIA with my husband. I know, that doesn’t speak too well for the 12 years of “Catholic” education I had!
So, thank you for all the effort and time you put into this website. I don’t know how you fit it into your schedule, but you are making a difference in how well our family is able to practice our Catholic faith.
BTW, my boys “play church” too and I love it! (We have 4 sons ages 9mo through 7 years and we homeschool!)
May the peace Baby Jesus brings fill your heart and strengthen you this advent and Christmas season.

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
