Small Successes :: August 13, 2009

“It’s important for moms to recognize that all the small successes in our days can add up to one big triumph. So on Thursday of each week, we do exactly that.”

I began organizing and de-cluttering some of my kitchen cupboards and drawers. Here are a few before and after pictures:

We hosted a “little” family get-together this past Saturday since some of our relatives from out-of-state were in town. I made WAY too much food, but we were able to enjoy the leftovers for days! My favorite was the Sundried Tomato Pasta Salad (I’ll try and post the recipe soon), though the Blueberry-Strawberry Cobbler I made from the leftover berries was delicious too!

After starting to read “It’s So You! Fitting Fashion to Your Life” this past weekend, I went through all my clothing and have a few stacks of stuff that is “So Not Me!” lol!! (I actually took the following picture before I was finished, and there is another stack next to those pictured!)

I found it interesting that most of the clothes in the stacks are things I hardly ever wear, even though I “like” them…

I must admit that I was disappointed to read that green is not in my “color palette” and I am really hoping that I am one of the rare women with “cool undertones” that can get away with wearing chocolate brown. It’s another one of my favorites!! On the other hand, yesterday I was wearing a shirt that I picked up at Motherhood on Monday (following the guidelines for my body type and color palette from the book) and hubby kept saying “You look really nice today!” You know, there just might be something to it all!  (Or perhaps his anesthesia hadn’t completely worn off!)  😉

~ BONUS ~

I guessed correctly!! I just knew she was a little girl! Now, I need to start thinking about pulling out all those darling little outfits which have been packed away for over 4 years. Yay!!!

    Jessica,
Why does the book ("Its So You") cost $68 on Amazon if you want to purchase it new? Is it out of print? Even used the cheapest is $28! Yikes. Maybe you can mail me your copy when you're done!:)

Well, I purchased my copy used on Amazon for around $27. It was an expensive book, but I think it was worth it. (But then I had a gift card for $25 which I used!) I'm not sure if it is out of print or not, but I wasn't able to find it elsewhere…

OOOhhhhh!!! I just did a search for the author's name, rather than the book title, and found her website!

Apparently she is now selling her own book. (Wish I would have found that out sooner!! I'd been waiting forever for the price to drop on Amazon!) Here is the link to the purchasing information. She charges $23 (including shipping), but it looks like you have to mail payment.

Also, while searching, I ran across this Book Review.

    I hope that helps!

I have to say, I think you would look nice in green. go figure.

I have olive skin or maybe more of tan, I can't wear green nor yellow (I do though!). I have to stick to blue, lavendars, grays..and I love to wear chocolate brown.

What size are you (if I may ask…) those clothes look mighty tempting! ha!!

There is a cleaning wind wafting from the West Coast to the East. It is contagious. I have been clearing out clothing for two plus weeks and donating them and now am doing my pantry and kitchen cabs and clearing out what is still in date but not used so that will go to our food shelf this weekend. This must be a contagious wind blowing across or maybe it's just inspiration from Jessica???? If so, good work Jessica! lol PJ

Thanks for stopping by my blog, Jessica!
I have not had a chance to congratulate you on your happy announcement. 🙂 After four boys in a row I would love the next baby to be the pink kind…:D
    Have a great weekend.

I wish that book was at our local library but it's not. 🙁

But I do love when I read something and it gives me good ideas on what to wear. 🙂

Thank you Josette! I didn't get rid of all the green in my closet… (If I did I wouldn't have much left!)

I mainly removed the styles of clothing from my closet (v-necks, jeans, etc) that aren't good for my body type or I don't wear anyways.

My skin is WHITE (sure wish I could tan) with pink undertones. I guess black, white, pinks, purples, blues, and other cool colors, are ones I should wear — also wearing dark colored skirts. (NO WONDER my white skirts look awful on me!)

As for my size — that depends on what month of what year you ask me that question! 😉 My clothes in my closet ranges from one pair of size 4 jeans I fit for about a week before finding out I was pregnant with Twinkle Toes (I've kept them just to torture myself!) all the way up to size 12 for post-pregnancy. However, the majority is size 8-10.

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
