On the Feast of St. George the Dragon Slayer

by | Apr 23, 2010 | Cake Decorating, St. George | 13 comments

We are off to meet some friends at the park!  Before we go, here are a couple picture of this year’s dragon cake!

He didn’t turn out nearly as cute as I would have liked, but I don’t think the kids will mind.

**Notes to self for next year**
  • Stick with the color green.  (This dragon started out orange peach and then ended up purple, at the request of my children.  I think he looked better green!)
  • Buy extra “extra” frosting.  (I thought that “extra” can would be more than enough, but ended up not being able to frost the Ding Dongs poor dragons thighs and feet.  Oh well!)
  • Fondant makes MUCH better flames than Gummy Worms! 😉
  • Don’t “hide” the Keebler Cookies.  (You will probably not be able to find them when it comes time to actually make the cake.  However, hershey kisses make an easy substitute for the spikes.)
If you’d like to make a dragon cake, don’t miss Charlotte’s new tutorials!
I hope you all have a very Happy Feast of St. George!

Aw, don't you hate hiding things and then not being able to find them?? I did that with some Christmas presents I bought for my husband one year, but I didn't even remember to look for them… when we moved from our apartment into our house, he found the bag and asked, "Hey, what's this?" so I couldn't even save them for the next year! When you find the cookies, you can all enjoy them as an extra treat, lol!

The cake is so cute… I do think the Hershey's Kisses substituted quite well for spikes down his back!

He's awesome! You always do a great job. We used Hershey's kisses too, the cherry cordial ones, which added some juicy red liquid to our dragon, upon slaying!

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure.
