~ Our 2010 Lenten Calendar ~
A few changes for this year ::
:: I decided to write in the items (for the younger children to count) daily, rather than plan it all out ahead of time. I hope to coordinate what I have them count with what I’ll be working on de-cluttering each day for the 40 Bag Challenge.
:: Our older boys will earn pennies by reading religious/saint books rather than counting various household items with the younger children. For each page they read they will earn a penny for their rice bowls. They were very excited about this change and have been doing quite a bit of extra reading each night. Hubby said that perhaps we should have said per chapter instead of per page! 😉
~ Fast and Give Alms ~
Take one item from pantry each day for the Poor,
~ Lenten Reading for the Children ~
~ 40 Days and 40 Nights ~
~ Sacrifice Beans ~

Prayer of Mothers
Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. I love getting ideas for great books from your sidebars. I've been looking through the Lent and Easter books recently, and I'm wondering which ones have appealed most to your littlest ones. My daughter is about Snuggles' age, and I would like to begin building our collection, but also want it to be something she'll be interested in now. Any suggestions for that young age group?

I finally got started on the Jesus tree and as of last night, I have the "ornaments" done through day 15. It's slow, but I'm sooo glad I'm doing it (and don't have to do it again!) the kids love it!

I have been doing the penny-a-page with our older children (for them to give away)… my oldest daughter (13) read over 700 pages in two days. This may turn into a lucrative endeavor for whatever charity she gives it to, but I think my husband might like to rethink the idea, too! She can just fly through the Vision Books in an hour.

Jenny ~ That's a tough question.. I have SUCH a hard time choosing favorites when it comes to our books. I love them all! Snuggles is very particular and has a few favorite board books, unlike my girls when they were his age… The girls always loved sitting and listening to whatever I was reading to their older brothers. I'll pull out all the books in the next couple days and see if I can narrow it down to our favorites.

I bought that Stations kit for my 13yo for Epiphany. I've wanted them forever, so my brilliant idea was to get my very crafty oldest child to make them for me. 🙂 She's lost steam though. I may have to finish.
