Little Flowers Girls’ Club ~ Cheerfulness

by | May 21, 2011 | Little Flowers, Little Flowers Wreath III | 9 comments

Yesterday afternoon I hosted our 7th Little Flowers Girls’ Club meeting for Wreath III.  Since we started late this year, we are a little behind and still have a couple meetings to go over the summer months.   For this meeting we decided to skip ahead a month so we could focus on Mary Mother of God and the virtue of Cheerfulness during the the month of May, which is dedicated to Our Lady.   We also decided to have a simplified “End of the Year” Marian Titles May Crowning Luncheon following our meeting which turned out so nice and the girls absolutely loved all the symbolic foods!

I be back with pictures from our Luncheon later…
Here is the overview of our meeting:

~ Coloring Pages ~

Queenship of Mary and Most Holy Name of Mary from Waltzing Matilda
~ Notebook Pages ~

For this month’s Virtue Notebook/Scrapbook Page, I used the memory verse for Cheerfulness, and a beautiful Consecration to Mary from Mondays With Mary A Celebration of Marian Feasts Throughout the Year:

“My Queen, My Mother, I give myself entirely to Thee, and to show my devotion to Thee, I consecrate to thee this day my eyes, my ears, my mouth, my heart, my entire self, without reserve. Wherefore, good Mother, as I am Thine own, keep me, defend me as Thy property and possession. Amen.”

Here is a picture of the sample page I created:

Here are the girls’ completed pages for “Cheerfulness”:

~ Craft :: Marian Artist Trading Cards ~

There were so many crafts I wanted to do for this meeting, but I ended up needing to keep it simple since I was also planning a May Crowning Luncheon for after this meeting.   I ended up deciding to have all the girls create 5 Marian Artist Trading Cards, to participate in Kimberlee’s Marian ATC Swap this month!

The girls all enjoyed illustrating their cards!

~ Lesson on Cheerfulness ~

Father spoke to the girls about Mary and the virtue of Cheerfulness, going through each of the five dimensions of Cheerfulness (Marian, Courageous, Heroic, Consistent, and Contagious) shared in the leader’s manual.  Afterwards he taught the girls a Marian hymn, led a Marian procession, and then we all prayed the Litany of Loreto before enjoying our May Crowning Feast.
~ Wreath III Flower Cupcakes ~

Blue Phlox Cupcakes

I wasn’t sure how I was going to decorate the cupcakes this month. . . After looking at various images online of Blue Phlox Flowers I ended up making a little bit of blue frosting.  Using a round frosting tip, I put five drops (my kids said they looked like hershey kisses) on each cupcake, then, using the tip of a knife, I pulled the frosting drops towards the center, creating the flowers.   I am a total amateur at this sort of thing, but I thought they turned out nicely!

The Blue is for Our Blessed Mother and the Five Petals represent the five dimensions of Cheerfulness:  Marian, Courageous, Heroic, Consistent, and Contagious.

I was able to take a quick picture of Father with all of the Little Flowers!
We are so very blessed to currently have him in our area!

Blessed Mother help us to be Cheerful!
St. Therese, the Little Flower, pray for us!

    Everything is fantastic, Jessica!

What a great idea to have the girls do the ATC's for the Marian craft! They did such a good job, too.

Your flower cupcakes are so beautiful! Thank you for sharing your tip on decorating. I'm *very* much an amateur, too. But, your's look so professional.

And I can't believe I forgot to check Charlotte's coloring pages for our May Crowning! My oldest daughter even noticed saying, " Mom! We didn't do any coloring pages!"…she has gotten so used to Charlotte's pages being a part of our liturgical celebrations.

I so love these posts about the Little Flowers meetings, the food and crafts, etc. How wonderfully creative and spirtual and educational for the girls, and how proud Our Lady must be. Wonderful post, Jessica. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Your Little Flowers posts are so encouraging to me, Jessica! I'm now trying to talk to some moms at my parish about starting a group.

I may have missed it, but I remember that you had said after your first year of doing Little Flowers that you though you might require the girls to get the activity book. Did you end up doing that? If so, how did you like it?

Thanks for sharing! I'm in an area where it's hard to connect with other Catholic moms, so your blog (and some others I've found) are so helpful to me in living and passing on the Faith. Thanks!

EK ~ I never did require the girls to purchase a book, but I did order copies for my girls. However, when Ecce Homo had a recent sale offering their books at 50% off, I noticed that they now sell a version that comes with a CD and the rights to print out copies for your group. I just ordered both (the one for Wreaths 1&2 and the one for Wreaths 3&4) to have for the future. Good luck getting your group going!! Little Flowers has been such a blessing for my girls!

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
