A Prayer to The Holy Family, for One’s Children

O Jesus, only-begotten Son of the Eternal Father, well-beloved Son of the Blessed Virgin and foster Child of St. Joseph, we most fervently implore Thee, through Mary Thine ever-blessed Mother and St. Joseph Thy foster father, take our children under Thy special charge and enclose them in the love of Thy Sacred Heart. They are the children of Thy Father in Heaven, created after His own image; they are Thy possession, for Thou hast purchased them with Thy Precious Blood; they are temples of the Holy Ghost, who sanctified them in Baptism and implanted in their hearts the virtues of faith, hope and charity.

O most loving Jesus, rule and guide them, that they may live according to the holy Catholic Faith, that they may not waver in their confidence in Thee and that they may ever remain faithful to Thy love.

O Mary, Blessed Mother of Jesus, grant to our children a place in thy pure maternal heart! Spread over them thy protecting mantle when danger threatens their innocence;
keep them firm when they are about to stray from the path of virtue; and should they have the misfortune of falling into mortal sin, oh, then raise them up again, reconcile them with thy Divine Son and restore them to Sanctifying Grace.

And thou, O holy foster father St. Joseph, do not abandon our children! Protect them from the assaults of the wicked enemy and deliver them from all dangers of soul and body.

O dear parents of the holy Child Jesus! Intercede for us parents also, that we may bring up our children in the love and fear of God and one day attain with them the Beatific Vision. Amen.

Oh, my — where to begin when thanking you, Jessica? Since finding your blog, I've…

    1. Ordered and read so many worthy books on Catholic feasting, Catholic moms & parenting, Catholic home educating, Catholic cooking, the liturgical year in the Domestic Church… You reminded me about the Treasure Box books and introduced me to Catholic Mosaic (wow — what a resource). I feel so enriched and ready to share these blessings with my family!

    2. Purchased the Jesus Tree you use — now I just have to cut out all those beautiful felt pieces… (Should I be thankful for this? *grin*) I also purchased The Garden of the Good Shepherd sticker calendar. I think my preschooler will find both captivating and educationally valuable.

    3. Found Illuminated Ink, Catholic Embroidery, and Arma Dei. Yay!

    4. Found so, so many other wonderful Catholic women's/mom's blogs. You're part of a fantastic network of holy women.

5.Been reminded of so many beautiful sacred Catholic traditions from my youth. How wonderful to find them again in time to share them with my own children and amplify their faith and devotion.

I'm also the one who wrote to your e-mail address about teaching preschoolers about the Stations of the Cross. Still looking for ideas to make Lent a meaningful experience for my three-year-old, but I've already found so many good ideas thanks to you. I feel renewed and inspired when I read your blog. Thank you! May God continue to bless you, your family, and your good works. God Is Great!

Thank you, Regina! You are too sweet!

There really is a wonderful network of blogs! I am often so very inspired by the blogs that I read, and have made some very dear friendships as well. So many blessings!!

I am so sorry that I haven't responded to your email yet. I wasn't able to keep up with emails before our newest little one was born, and now it is pretty much impossible. 🙂 I am a little bit better with answering comments though, at least from time to time! 😉

My favorite suggestion for Lent with little ones is the Lent Calendar suggested in "Guiding Your Catholic Preschooler" that we have been using since our youngest was a toddler. It was the first "extra" thing we ever did and have continued each year, adding new traditions as the children got older. I first blogged about it in 2008 and you can find that post here: Our Lenten Calendar

As for the Stations of the Cross, I really love this DVD. It does hold the attention of my little ones, but it really would depend on the child.

    I hope that helps!

Please, please don't apologize! It's amazing just how much you do with a growing family. I really meant it when I said that I wouldn't be hurt if I didn't get a response. 🙂 I just wanted to share my thanks for the specific gifts you've offered me. And thank you again! I love the Lenten calendar you wrote about, and I'll definitely check out the DVD, as well. Here's to many more days of sharing in God's many blessings here in cyberspace!

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
