Novena to Saint Thérèse

Most gracious Little Rose Queen,
remember your promises of never letting
any request made to you go unanswered,
of sending down a shower of roses,
and of coming down to earth to do good.

The feast day of St. Thérèse is coming up! Her feast is celebrated on the 1st of October (on the New Calendar) and on the 3rd of October (on the Traditional Calendar).   Our family usually celebrates it on both dates, with the feast of the Holy Guardian Angels and our wedding anniversary on the day in between!   The novena for her intercession can be prayed anytime, but we always love praying it (for nine days in a row) in anticipation of her feast, ending on the eve of the Feast (Sept 30th or Oct 2nd).

In the past I have always posted daily reminders here at Shower of Roses. You can find all those posts here and here.   This year I wanted to suggest signing up for emailed daily reminders over at Pray More Novenas!  All you have to do is click here and join the Novena!

I also thought I’d share the prayer from a beautiful book, Novena: The Power of Prayer, which I’ll be praying each day with our children:

Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, during your short life on earth you became a mirror of angelic purity, of love strong as death, and of wholehearted abandonment to God. Now that you rejoice in the reward of your virtues, turn your eyes of mercy upon me, for I put my confidence in you.

Obtain for me the need to keep my heart and mind pure and clean like your own, and to abhor sincerely whatever may in any way tarnish the glorious virtue of purity, so dear to our Lord.

Most gracious Little Rose Queen, remember your promises of never letting any request made to you go unanswered, of sending down a shower of roses, and of coming down to earth to do good.  Full of confidence in your power with the Sacred Heart, I implore your intercession in my behalf and beg of you to obtain the request I so ardently desire.

(Mention your request.)

Holy little Theresa, remember your promise to do good upon the earth and shower down your roses on those who invoke you.  Obtain for me from God the graces I hope for from his infinite goodness.  Let me feel the powers of your prayers in every need.  Give me consolation in all the bitterness of this life, and especially at the hour of death, that I may be worthy to share eternal happiness with you in heaven. Amen.

Dear Jessica, our famiy will be going to the very first shrine dedicated to St. Therese which is right here in RI. If you have a special intention I would love to bring it there for you on her feast day. You can email me. If not I will just pray for your intentions. Have a great day!

Praying the novena at our home, too and have sent it to a few friends who are praying it as well! Simply LOVE St. Therese and ALL the feasts coming up – got some fun activities for my daughter planned for them!

How wonderful to celebrate a wedding anniversary on Oct 2nd! 🙂 You all will be "feasted out"!

"Happy novena praying" and God's grace to you and your family!

St .Therese was so instrumental in our engagement that we really wanted to get married on her feast-day. October 2nd was the closest we could get! 🙂 The only sad thing this year is that it looks like they may be giving my husband an extension on his assignment and will still be out of town. It's not for sure yet, but I keep having to remind myself how much of a blessing this extra work will be, even though we all miss him so much!

Thank you! We have two special intentions – one that our whole family is praying for and one that I am personally praying for. I'll send you an email! 🙂

Jessica, I will bring your special intentions with me on October 1 to the National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak, MI.

Thank you for posting all of these beautiful helps (again!)…I always check here first before elsewhere online for St. Therese novena prayers (or, really…anything about St. Therese, lol!). I'm so glad to know that October 3rd is also an "official" feast day, because I thought I was late in starting this year's novena (for the 1st). I might have forgotten again, but I was given a little gift w/roses on it today & I remembered – perhaps she is reminding me. 🙂

Thanks for all of your encouragement through your blog! I always say an extra little prayer of blessing for you & your family out of gratefulness!

    Have a blessed week

Yes, I see that the fires are pretty bad out West this year, but as you say, it's good to have the extra work to help you all out! My husband and I got married on St. Patrick's Day (before we converted and in LENT no less! LOL!), so we have the "double feast" to celebrate that day!

Hope you hang in there while he's still away – never easy…. 🙁 I hope the feasts help keep spirits up!

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
