This past Saturday afternoon, after our St. Patrick’s Day breakfast and morning at the Rink, and before Mass and the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner at Church, we attended a fun birthday party for a sweet little two year old.

… and I just loved this idea to drill holes in a slice of wood to display cake pops!
Oh, and decorating the ceiling with table cloths? Never would have thought of that!

We are so blessed to have met this sweet family. I purchased a crib off of Craigslist when I was pregnant with Rose (my one and only craigslist purchase ever) and ended up finding an architect/contractor for our remodel, in addition to some wonderful new friends.
We are all really missing Daddy. Today is only the 5th day (out of 20) that he has been gone and it seems like forever. Is it Easter yet?

You're about 1/4 of the way through until he comes home. Praying that it goes quickly! Love, love,love that cake. Did your friend make it herself? And decorating with tablecloths, did she cut them in half? Or in thirds?
I love all the pictures and have made note of some wonderful ideas for future parties! My husband travels weekly, so I know how difficult it can be. Prayers! +JMJ+
Jamie said that she hired someone to make the cake and the cake pops. She said that it also only cost $40 for the cake AND TWENTY of those little owl cake pops. Considering how long that would have taken me I thought that was such a great deal.
I'm not sure if she cut the table cloths. I know they were at least folded in half, but now that you mention it, they might have been cut in half before she folded them. Her husband hung them all up for her.
That looked like a fantastic birthday party. I'm praying for you. My husband left on a business trip this past Sunday for just 6 nights compared to your 20. In those many moments when I start to feel frustrated and overwhelmed I have reminded myself that 1. This is only for a week (it was originally going to be two) 2. Other people [you] are managing to survive their husband being away on a business trip with more children and an even younger baby. I hope things get easier for you as the days tick by. Not sure if you're able to iChat or Skype with your husband, but using iChat has been a tremendous blessing for us when my husband travels. I don't know how we got by with out it for the first 7 years of him traveling. It allows my girls to sit and spend a little time talking with their Daddy. He does funny things to amuse them and it gives me a few minutes here and there to try and relax. It even entertains our 5 month old who seems quite bewildered that her daddy keeps showing up on the computer and iPad.
I'll pray for you too, Karen! I had only spoken with my husband a couple of times, once when he arrived and again on Monday. He was able to call last night and then he stayed up really late working on a paper and we emailed back and forth. We mentioned trying to figure out Skype or iChat. I am wishing I would have gotten it all set up before he left, since he took our laptop with him. Oh well. The time difference has been hard since when he finally has a minute to call it is usually the most hectic time, dinner/bedtime. By the time everything settles down and I am really wishing I could call him it's the middle of the night in TN. We are staying busy though, which is helping the time pass a little more quickly. I really don't know how military families are able to do it!!
That picture of your baby looks like he has red hair coming in. (My dh is a redhead, but our children aren't). And little Parker looks so dainty as she holds her whole cake. Cute.

I don't know how military families do it either. It makes my fretting over six nights without my husband around to help out seem so trivial by comparison. I'm just incredibly grateful that my husband doesn't travel as much as he used to, but after a year of nearly no travel a week long trip is a bit of a shock to me.
We're on the east coast and my husband is currently in California so we're flipped with time.He's able to chat with the baby when he wakes up, but our older girls are at school. He's been catching them for a few minutes while he has a lunch break right as they're coming home and then doesn't get to talk to them until it's bedtime. If you have a Mac using iChat isn't too difficult, but I'm not sure how to set it up, although I did figure out how to add a contact to the list earlier this week.

That looks like an adorable party! (You had quite the day). I think it is exhausting trying to do everything on your own–it is really hard when Daddy isgone! Hang in there!
