Flowering Rod of Jesse Cake

“Saint Anne has two colors, red and green, one for love, the other for rebirth, as she bore the New Eve, Mary…”

Today my little star bakers, after watching another episode of The Great British Baking Show, created a “Flowering Rod of Jesse” (an ancient title connected to Our Lady as well as St. Anne) cake for today’s feast! I somehow managed to take pictures while holding and bouncing this incredibly colicky baby of ours before she finally fell asleep for a few minutes. ♥

Supplies:

  • 3 – 6″ round Gluten Free Chocolate Cakes
  • 1 can of white frosting, some mixed with peanut butter for the top of the cake, and the rest mixed with cocoa powder for the sides/bark
  • green and red candy melts for the leaves and flowers

Saint Anne and the Child Mary by Sleightholm Folk Art
O models of pious and virtuous married persons, St. Joachim and St. Anne! Through the wondrous blessing with which God rejoiced you when He chose you as the parents of the ever blessed Virgin, the mother of our Savior, obtain for us, we beseech you, the grace to desire nothing but virtue and piety; that, in fidelity and love, we may share each other’s joys and sorrows, and together with our children lead such a life as to insure our entrance into the kingdom of heaven! Amen.

Happy Feast of Sts. Joachim & Anne!

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
