The Liturgical Year Calendar: Christmas Cycle

by | Nov 15, 2021 | Advent and Christmas, Reviews | 11 comments

My absolute favorite new resource for incorporating the Liturgical Year in our home the past couple years has been the Liturgy of the Home Calendars!

We’ve been using them since they first shared their printable black & white versions for Lent & Easter of 2020. I loved pulling out my watercolors to paint the Easter Calendar and I always love watching my children explore the symbolism and gorgeous Catholic art.

Once they started offering them in color I would print and paste them together to create our posters. Thankfully we have a great printer and the posters turned out great, but it didn’t compare to the beautiful printed posters that Sophia Institute Press is now publishing for Liturgy of the Home!
I will be including the calendar in my annual Gift Guide & Giveaway this upcoming weekend but wanted to share a few pictures now as well as the coupon code (expiring tonight!) at the bottom of this post.
The first set includes four posters for the Christmas Cycle. You can sign up for a subscription to receive four calendars every three months, or you can just order the Christmas Cycle to try it out!
I’m not an affiliate or anything, I just really love these calendars and want to keep promoting them! (I was sent this sample set from the publisher, but would have purchased it anyway.)
Sophia Institute Press currently has a 35% OFF coupon code (and free shipping on $25+) that will expire at midnight today (11/15/21). It doesn’t work on the discounted subscription, but you could try out the Christmas Cycle for less than $20 if you order right now!

Are these able to be framed?

Yes! An 18"x24" poster frame should work (I haven't gotten one yet but plan to look this week) or you can get the Wooden Poster Hanger that Sophia is offering: https://www.sophiainstitute.com/products/item/wooden-poster-hanger

Previously I was taping our cardstock printed posters to my pantry door, but I'm leaning towards framing these going forward and rotating them in the frame as we progress through the cycle.

Hi! This might be a silly question, but are these the new or old calendar, or are the advent feats the same?

Hi! This might be a silly question, but do these correspond to a particular calendar (ie pre or post Vatican II)? I don’t know if there’s even a difference in the advent feasts.

Not a silly question at all! These calendars follow the traditional liturgical calendar.

From the description: There is a treasure trove of riches in the ancient Roman liturgy of the Church. The feasts and fasts, ember days, rogation days, and octaves make for a rising and falling as in the Gregorian Chant. Yet, we have forgotten so much, and it is difficult to recover these traditions in our age of noise and ugliness.

As a small offering to help families, and children especially, see sacred time illuminated in a beautiful way, Michaela Harrison and her family have worked together to make a set of fully illustrated calendars that follow the traditional liturgical calendar. These calendars present time not according to the months, but according to the different periods of the liturgical year.

Some of the differences would be that the Sundays would include illustrations for the Traditional Latin Mass readings and be listed as "2nd Sunday after Epiphany" (instead of "2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time").

I do notice that she has included mentions of the new additions to the calendar too! For example in the Advent Calendar you will see little illustrations of St. Juan Diego (New – Dec 9) and Our Lady of Loreto (New- Dec 10).

I think this calendar would truly be beneficial regardless of which calendar you follow!

Just two days ago I ordered the subscription to these glorious calendars, thanks be to Shower of Roses for posting about them previously! I am so excited about receiving them. I've also purchased the wooden hanger, but may consider framing them. They are indeed works of art and a lively faith!

Do you sell these in the store, or do you need to order directly from the publisher? Thanks you. Ame

I don't have a store, but they can be ordered directly from the publisher. You can also check out the digital membership at Liturgy of the Home for another option.

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
