Nine Months

Our little ball of fire is nine months old already! We all love her “Most Ardently” even though we have never had such a challenging baby and she still doesn’t let me sleep for much more than an hour at a time, for the 4 hours I manage to average each night/day.
As of her doctor’s appointment this week (9 1/2 months) she dropped off the bottom of the chart and is weighing in at just 14 lbs 14.8 oz. We tend to have small children, but I’ll be taking her in for another weight check next month just to keep an eye on it and make sure she continues to gain.

When she is not crying, she loves playing peek-a-boo, flipping through the pages of her board books, playing with her stacking blocks, practicing walking (she is up to about six or seven steps), splitting an avocado with me each afternoon, eating just about anything except for baby food (at least when I am feeding her), and of course bath time. Her smiles and giggles are my favorite and absolutely worth the exhaustion and all the sleepless nights. ❤

Love is watchful. Sleeping, it does not slumber. Wearied, it is not tired. Pressed, it is not straitened. Alarmed, it is not confused, but like a living flame, a burning torch, it forces its way upward and passes unharmed through every obstacle. — Imitation of Christ

Love our Lady. And she will obtain abundant grace to help you conquer in your daily struggle. — St. Josemaria Escriva

Love can accomplish all things. Things that are most impossible become easy where love is at work. — St. Therese

God is good, such a beautiful baby! Our son was always on the light side…still is at 23…he didn't sleep thru the night til he was 3 years old…thankfully I was a stay-at-home mom. Love your website…Blessings!

p.s. Our son never ate baby food, went from nursing to a sippy cup and table food…I made beef stew, turkey and rice, potato soup…pureed them…along with fruits…All babies are different. They just need our love and care

She reminds me of my first born, who also hardly slept her first year of life and only weighed 14 pounds at 9 months. My daughter is now 5 years old and is both my best sleeper and eater! Hoping the same for you! Many blessings to your family!

I hear you. Our 7th would wake up every 1/2 hour all night long. I paid for an online sleep consultant, who said my baby was associating nursing with sleeping. She advised me to not nurse my baby to sleep, but nurse him when he was awake. That ended up being exactly right. (They also suggested using a fan for white noise and perhaps a special blanket or stuffed animal.) Once I stopped nursing him to sleep, he slept for longer stretches. He still wasn't a kid that napped much. He was going strong all day without a nap at 2. It is so hard as a mom to function without good sleep. I will pray for you that she'll let you get more shut-eye!

Wow, she looks SO much like Captain! <3 Well, she's a tiny bird but she looks good! Meeting all those milestones so early too. My kids never thought much of baby food either lol. I seem to forget that with each one and buy some anyway…

A beautiful baby. Good health – and sleep – to you both. 🙂

Yes, I'm sure she associates nursing with sleeping now too… I'm just not successful when trying to get her to sleep without nursing. For a number of months she would nap for a little while in the bathroom with the fan running, but once she outgrew the Rock'nPlay she won't nap without being held, unless she is really exhausted, then she will occasionally sleep for a little while in her basket (with the fan running) but never at night. I am going to try and nurse her more when she isn't tired and try and change the habits, but if you have any other tips I'd love to hear them. It really is so hard to function without sleep and my health is really declining as well.

Yes, except for when she is crying or screaming, but even then she is still adorable 😉

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
