New St. Therese the Little Flower Faith Folder from Faith Folders for Catholics ~ Review & Giveaway!

With the feast of St. Therese coming up this next month, I was so excited to have the opportunity to review Holy Learning‘s (previously Faith Folders for Catholics) newest release – the St. Therese the Little Flower Faith Folder!

In the past our family has enjoyed a number of other Faith Folders (aka Lap Books) from Faith Folders for Catholics including the Advent Lap Book, Lent Lap Book, and most recently the Year for Priests Lap Book.  They all turned out beautifully and I just love seeing my children pull them back out from time to time to look through (or show others!) their work.

Like all of the other Faith Folders we have enjoyed, Lindy (owner of Faith Folders for Catholics) has done an amazing job at putting together a lovely collection of mini-books for this Folder on St. Therese, from the sweet little rose shaped book containing “Words of the Little Flower,” to the “Road to Carmel” pick a tab book, and so many more.

One of my favorite features is that multiple options for printing the mini-books are included!  For example, you can print the mini-books in either black & white or in color (I will often print the black & white version onto a color paper of our choice to save on ink), and there is usually the option between pre-typed text or blank lines for the children to fill in themselves, making the folder easily adaptable for a variety of ages and grade levels.

My children are very excited to start working on this new Faith Folder as we prepare to celebrate the Feast of St. Therese!  Will you join us?

The St. Therese the Little Flower Faith Folder can be purchased from Holy Learning (previously Faith Folders for Catholics) for only $10 (Digitial E-Book Option) or $14 (CD-Rom Option).

Faith Folders for Catholics has also offered to give-away one digital copy of this new Faith Folder to a visitor here at Shower of Roses!

Little Flowers Girls’ Club ~ Loyalty

Here are a few of the highlights from our Little Flowers Girls’ Club Meeting for the Wreath II virtue of Loyalty and St. Lucy:

~ Coloring Pages ~

St. Lucy of Syracuse Coloring Page
~ Meeting and Notebook Pages ~
Amy gave the talk on Loyalty for this meeting and read a story about St. Lucy from the lovely book Around the Year Once Upon a Time Saints by Ethel Pochocki.

The notebook page for St. Lucy was my favorite from this past year.   It was simple, but I just loved the image of St. Lucy and thought the page turned out so pretty.  We started with red and white cardstock.  I then found a poppy flower border (flipping it for the right side of the page) to decorate the corners.  I also typed the St. Lucy prayer so that, when it was cut out by the girls, it would be heart shaped.    The document I made can be downloaded here.

Here is my sample page:

Since the flower for this meeting was a Poppy, I ordered the Memorial Poppies with Poem from Oriental Trading and replaced the poem with the memory verse.

Had this meeting taken place in November or December I would have loved to make Santa Lucia Crowns with the girls again.  Maybe next time!

Little Flowers Girls’ Club ~ Justice

Back in March (was it really THAT long ago?!) we had our Little Flowers Meeting for the virtue of Justice.   I’ve been meaning to try and blog about it (as well as our meeting for the virtue of Loyalty) ever since. . .   Apparently the problem with waiting so long to blog about our meeting (in addition to the sleep deprivation at the time from having a newborn) is that I am having a hard time remembering all the details!  Thankfully I did take a few pictures.  😉

The Annunciation Coloring Page

(I choose this coloring page since our meeting ended up falling on March 25th, the feast of the Annunciation, and since the Feast of the Annunciation is a celebration of the actual Incarnation of Jesus Christ, for which Blessed Mary of the Incarnation is named.)

Other beautiful coloring pages of the Annunciation can be found here and here

There is also a lovely illustration of Blessed Mary of the Incarnation, included in an Icon Art Project for Little Flowers, which I ran across just a little too late to incorporate into our meeting.

~ Meeting ~

One of the other moms, my friend Kathleen, gave the talk for this virtue using a story on the virtue of Justice from Amy Welborn’s Loyola Kids Book of Heroes: Stories of Catholic Heroes and Saints Throughout History (pages 167-169).
“When we practice the virtue of justice, we treat every person as a child of God.  We remember that God created the world to be a good, happy place where everyone is treated fairly.”
~ Notebook Pages ~

For the notebook pages I used the memory verse for Justice, a quote on the Cardinal Virtues from My Catholic Faith (one of my favorite books!), this beautiful image of Blessed Mary of the Incarnation, a quote from the Bible, and some aster flowers. You can download my document here.

Here is the sample page I created:

The girls did a beautiful job creating their notebook pages!

Since the Wreath 2 Craft Companion suggested making a Shell Cross for this meeting since “God presented Himself as a sacrifice of atonement through faith in His Blood. He did this to demonstrate His justice… — Rm 3:25” I ordered a Seashell Cross Kit from Oriental Trading for this meeting.

Kathleen’s older daughters, who are also Little Flowers, made the snack for our meeting:  Lamb Cupcakes

Blessed Mary of the Incarnation, pray that we may live our life justly.

{this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. Back-to-School :: 2010-2011

Captain :: 4th Grade ~ Rascal :: 3rd Grade
Twinkle Toes :: 1st Grade ~ Chiquita :: Kindergarten

Just like last year, the kids all woke up to find Schultütes filled with snacks and school supplies!  Even Snuggles, who wouldn’t let me take an individual picture of him and will be focusing more on potty training this year instead of school, loved his mini version.
Overall we had a great first day!  I decided to start on Thursday since we have a Back-to-School Mass & get together with our Homeschool Group today and should now be ready to start on our “real” schedule next week.

My Daybook :: Sep 8/9, 2010

Outside my (open) window… I can hear the crickets chirping.  It’s really late and I should probably get to bed, but it has been forever (a whole week!) since I’ve had any “extra” time for blogging and I am really beginning to miss this little space!

I am thankful… that Hubby made it home this past Sunday night!  Thank you all for your prayers for his safety.

I am hoping and praying… that our first day of school, which will be in the morning, will go well and we will get off to a good start for this coming school year, despite the fact that I am still not “ready.”   I don’t think that I mentioned it here, but we did look into putting at least some of our children into school for this year, but in the end I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.   I keep telling myself that things will be much easier when our remodel is finished and that I shouldn’t be making any major decisions while our life is so overwhelming and chaotic. Right?!?

From the kitchen…  It has been so nice to have a refrigerator and oven in the house once again, and tomorrow morning in just 6 hours our COUNTERTOPS are going to be installed!   On Friday, the plumber will be back to install our kitchen sink, faucet, and dishwasher.  And then next week our contractor will install the tile backsplash.   The rest of the electrical will be completed soon and sometime (within the next couple weeks) the cabinet maker will be back to install all of the door fronts and crown molding.   I had hoped that it would be finished before we started school, but thankfully it won’t be too much longer.  It is all coming together so beautifully and is going to be SUCH a blessing!!!

It has been awhile since I’ve posted any pictures here, so here are a few:

Tile Floors, Base Cabinets and our new Fridge!

Plywood Countertops, Shelves and Drawers!

The Pantry, which I absolutely LOVE!  We were suppose to do all the painting, but our contractor painted the shelves last week while Hubby was gone so I could move all the food into the house.  🙂

From the learning rooms… Back-to-School Schultütes for tomorrow morning!

Living the Liturgical Year at Home… Happy Birthday Blessed Mother!!   In the past years we’ve always baked a cake on the 8th, but this year I think we will wait until the 12th.

I am listening to… audio books with my children, particularly while driving to and from town!  We recently finished listening to the Chronicles of NarniaOnce Upon a Time Saints, and Enemy Brothers, and now we have moved on to A Little History of the World.

I am creating… plans for Little Flowers.

I am wearing… my ankle brace (when I remember to put it on), but I am finally getting around pretty well without crutches!  Yay!!

I am reading… the summer issue of Mater et Magistra.

Our little Rose… is turning into a toddler way too quickly!   Her bottom right tooth was the first to break through on Aug 25th, and tehn her left bottom tooth and top left tooth came in this week. She is standing up (but not get walking) on her own.   Oh, and she also loves to climb!   Thankfully Hubby had just lowered the mattress (again!) to the very lowest setting a couple weeks ago.

Noticing that… Rose giggles every time she sees her reflection.  It is so cute!

Around the house… I posted a few pictures of our new tile, but our wood floor has been installed as well!  I somehow managed to order the wrong color (aka: not quite the color Hubby picked) but, even though it is very dark, I think it turned out gorgeous!

On keeping home…  I had a feeling that all 18″ of Baking Sheet Storage would come in handy.  🙂

One of my favorite things… With all of the new hard surfaces in our home I am just loving my new Dirt Devil and Shark Steam Mop!!

A Picture thought I am sharing:

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.
