Little Flowers Girls’ Club ~ Industry
Last Thursday we had our Little Flowers Girls’ Club meeting on St. Frances Xavier Cabrini and the virtue of Industry.Once again, since the weather was gorgeous, I hosted the meeting at my home in the afternoon, giving the girls an opportunity to have some play time in addition to our meeting.
As usual we began our meeting with the prayer to St. Therese and the Acts of Faith, Hope, and Love. We then continued with a review of the virtue and saint we learned about at our last meeting.
I printed out Charlotte’s St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Coloring Page to color, and then be added to the girl’s notebooks.
Next I introduced the virtue we will be working on, Industry, and read a short biography of the saint for this month, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini.
Following the lesson the girls began making their notebook pages. I included the memory verse and for Industry, a short quote, and the prayer to St. Frances. Here are the links to Daffodil and the image of St. Frances that I choose, and my sample page: (You can download my document here: Text & Mother Cabrini.)
The girls have gotten so industrious at putting their pages together, and they were done in no time!
They did a lovely job as usual. Here are the completed pages:
Snack time was next. Dee Dee had snacks for this meeting, and she did a wonderful job! She made the cutest Daffodil Cupcakes using Wilton Flower Silicone Fun Cups
Before the girls all headed out to the swing set to play I snapped a quick group photo. I was so excited to see that everyone remembered to wear their sashes this time!

Shower of Photos 2009 :: Day 26
Shower of Photos 2009 :: Day 25
Even though I am a bit behind in posting, I do have a couple pictures to share from this weekend. Here is one I took Saturday night (at the suggestion of our friend Marc), at Father Carmelo’s Anniversary Dinner, during cleanup…
50 Years a Priest
On March 14, 2009 Fr. Carmelo Mifsud celebrated 50 years as a priest of God. Here is a short video tribute to his life. It was created by our friend Marc and presented last night, at the lovely Anniversary dinner we attended, in his honor:
Father Carmelo has been such an incredible blessing to our family. Just a few examples include: baptizing Rascal, baptizing a few of our Godchildren (including Benjamin and Madeleine), blessing our home, offering Mass at the cemetery each year on the feast of All Souls, and allowing Captain and Rascal to begin serving Mass and Benediction on Fridays when they turned just 5 years old. Not to mention that this has all taken place during his very active “retirement”! Thank you Father Carmelo, and may God reward you abundantly!
Bless their labors with abundant fruit, and may the souls to whom they have ministered be here below their joy and consolation and in Heaven their beautiful and everlasting crown. Amen.
Happy Feast of St. Mark!
Before I head out the door for the boys game this morning, I thought I’d post a few links with ideas to do for today, the feast of St. Mark
- Here is my post from last year.
- A picture of our Lion Cupcakes from last year… I am decorating a few muffins this morning as lions! =)
- Be sure to check Catholic Cuisine for a few more recipe ideas.
- And Charlotte has generously shared another of her beautiful coloring pages! If we don’t have time to color it today, we will color it sometime this coming week!
A bit of chaos!
I guess another one of the problems, with having a cute little birdie living in a nest just outside the front door, is that, when your hubby arrives home really late after a long day on a fire assignment, and your little one is super excited to see him, the squeals of excitement from the front door may scare the bird and he will then fly INTO the house! Oops!!
So, after a 15 hour work day (plus travel) not only did hubby have to jump start my car (the battery was dead again yesterday, forcing me to cancel all our plans), he also had to help me get the bird out of the house, before trying to get a little bit of sleep since he had to head back out super early this morning.
I’m on my own again today with a baseball game this morning and an Anniversary dinner for Father tonight, so wish me luck! I’m not feeling very well to begin with… Hopefully I will be able to start the car, keep the bird out of the house, and make it through the day! 😉
Oh! One more thing… Last night, as I was thinking about the bird egg’s, I remembered that we never did do anything with the ones that were abandoned last year. This bird could be pushing those eggs out, right?
Shower of Photos 2009 :: Day 24
We seem to have a little birdie in a nest on one of the pillars outside our front door… The bird flies off every time we open the door, but I left it open for a little while and was able to take a picture with my zoom lens from my living room. I know very little about birds, so can one of you tell me why it keeps pushing it’s eggs out of the nest? You can see one sitting on the ledge about to fall, and another was on the deck the other day and, being just after Easter, was mistaken for a Cadbury Mini Egg and almost eaten by one of my children! :S
Undercover at Planned Parenthood
“Pro-life activist Lila Rose talks about posing as a pregnant 15-year old in Planned Parenthood clinics throughout the country and their blatent disregard for the law.”
A couple of my sisters had the opportunity to attend a wonderful Pro-Life convention recently. Although I wasn’t able to go, I’ve been watching some of the talks online.
Garden of the Good Shepherd ~ Week 3
I’ve been working on collecting some ideas to use this coming week, along with The Garden of the Good Shepherd. Like usual, I am sure that we won’t get to all of these activities, but we sure are having fun trying! My children have really been enjoying the Bible readings each day and adding a sticker to our calendar.
The theme for week 3 is:
15. The Sun : Read Psalm 19:1-6
Last year we made a paper plate sun craft.
- Make a Sparkling Sun Catcher.
- Make Sun Tea Punch and Sun Cupcakes.
- Serve Sun Chips with lunch.
- Make Sunshine Shakes: in a blender, combine one 6-ounce can unsweetened frozen orange juice concentrate, 3/4 cup milk, 3/4 cup water, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 6 ice cubes. Makes 4 servings.
- Read Sunshine Makes the Seasons
by Franklyn Branley, Sun Up, Sun Down
by Gail Gibbons, and The Sun
by Seymour Simon. (While I was at it, I also ordered Who Owns the Sun?
by Stacy Chbosky and The Sun Egg
by Elsa Beskow from the library too!)
16. The Cloud: Read 1 Kings 8:2-11
- Browse NASA’s links to some General Cloud Information.
- Read The Cloud Book
by Tomie dePaola,
- Make Mashed Potato Clouds for with Dinner.
- Make Cloud Cookies, Angel Cloud Cream Puffs, or Whipped Creamy Clouds.
Whipped Creamy Clouds: Provide each child with a piece of waxed paper and a spoon. To make a treat, a child scoops a large spoonful of nondairy whipped topping onto their waxed
paper. Then the child uses their spoon to create a cloud shape. Freeze each child’s cloud; then serve.
17. The Rain : Read Matthew 5:43-48
- Listen to the story Noah and the Ark on Tales from the Old Testament. (Here is a link to a great Noah’s Ark Coloring Mural we’ve enjoyed in the past.)
- Since Jesus compared God’s mercy to a gentle rain, we will talk about how God has been merciful to us and read some excerpts from God Loves Us All
.
- Make a Rain Gauge.
- Read Where Does the Butterfly Go When It Rains?
, Rabbits and Raindrops
, Down Comes the Rain
, and Rain Drop Splash.
- Read about the Rainforests and make Rain Forest Trail Mix
- Surprise my children with their own bottle of Talking Rain’s Sparkling Ice, it’s a favorite around here…
18. The Lightning : Read Job 28:20-26
- Read Flash, Crash, Rumble, and Roll
.
- Read about lightning online and do one or two of the suggested experiments.
- Read Thunder Cake
by Patricia Polacco and bake a cake to go along with the story.
19. The Hail : Read Job 38:28-30
- Read Rain & Hail
.
- We have a Pampered Chef Ice Shaver which we rarely use, but this might be a perfect day to make some Shaved Ice!
- Play “Here comes the
RainHail”
Here Comes the Rain/Hail Gamefrom Little Saints Pre-School ProgramPrep: Take 2 aluminum pie pans and place 1/4 of beans in one of them. Staple the other pan on top. You will also need couch cushion and/or child’s special blanket.
1. Discuss how animals seek shelter when it rains. Have child choose to make believe they are an eagle, dove or butterfly. Instruct them that they will have to listen carefully in this game so they can hear the storm coming and seek shelter before they get wet.
2. Have them place the cushion (nest) or their blanket (tree) where their nest/tree will be.
3. Have child pretend to fly around; butterflies seeking nectar, doves and eagles seeking food.
4. Hidden from view, gently start to shake the pie pan, building up to storm level.
5. Once the children have landed in their nest or under their tree safely, slowly stop the “rain/ hail” and repeat.
20. The Wind : Read Ezekiel 37:7-10
- Learn how to measure wind speed, Blow Bubbles and/or make a Paper Bag Kite
- Read Feel the Wind
, The Wind Blew
, and When the Wind Blew
.
21. The Rainbow : Read Genesis 9:12-15
- Watch Signing Time # 6 and sign/sing Colors of the Rainbow.
- Read Planting a Rainbow
by Lois Ehlert.
- Paint a rainbow with finger paints.
- Serve Rainbow Pasta for lunch.
- Make Rainbow cupcakes. You can frost them different colors and arrange them like a rainbow, color the batter to look like a rainbow, or decorate the top with either a frosting rainbow or candy’s such as Skittles/M&M’s.
- Play Noah’s Rainbow Race.
- Make a Rainbow Fruit Salad which contains all the colors of the rainbow. Use Strawberries or Watermelon, Oranges or Cantalope, Pineapple, Green Grapes or Kiwi, Blueberries, and Purple Grapes or Plums. Serve with whipped cream, ice cream or yogurt, if desired.
- Rainbow Kabobs with Cloud Dip would also be a fun alternative to the Rainbow Fruit Salad.
I hope you are all having a very blessed Easter season!
