A Quick Hello and a Giveaway!

by | Sep 4, 2013 | American Girl, Birthday Parties, Costumes, Giveaway | 158 comments

I just wanted to pop in real quick to say hello and let you all know that I will try and answer comments/blog questions and emails (there are currently over 250 in my inbox waiting for responses from this past year… Even though I had it “caught up” to 60 at the beginning of summer.) as soon as I have a chance.  It’s just been a little busier than usual around here!  Thursday we had an Ice Cream Social at the park with friends, Friday we celebrated a 10th birthday (pictures coming soon!), Saturday included a visit with out-of-state cousins, Sunday we headed to the coast for a parish picnic, Latin Mass and dinner with friends (before a late night drive home), Monday (yesterday) I watched my little brother win the final round of a golf tournament (and setting a new record!), and today we have dear friends arriving for another visit and staying until Sunday!  I guess I really should have used pencil when I wrote “First Day of School” in my planner! 😉

Dressed up and coloring pictures from Caroline’s Color and Craft on Twinkle Toes’ 10th Birthday

Anyways, while we are busy having fun with friends, it’s time for another giveaway here at Shower of Roses.  Over the past couple years I have purchased a few beautiful dresses for my girls from Cheri at Ashley’s Attic and she has offered to give an Apron and Bonnet set to one of my visitors!  You can see my girls wearing the Josefina and Kirsten dresses in the Josefina Birthday and An Early American Pioneer Birthday posts.  Twinkle Toes also received the Caroline Abbott dress last Christmas which she wore again last week on her 10th birthday!  I have been so impressed with the quality and durability of these dresses and look forward to purchasing more (perhaps a dress for Rose!) from Ashley’s Attic in the future!

The winner of this giveaway will receive a handmade Bonnet and Apron in their choice of either Regular (fits best 5 to 9 year old) or Large (fits best 10 and over).  The color will be chosen by Cheri, since this is an extra busy time of year for her as well.

If you would like to be entered in this giveaway, just leave a comment on this post, and make sure your email address is either linked on your profile or included in the comment so that I am able to contact you if you win.

For an extra entry visit Ashley’s Attic and then come back and tell me which dress/item is your favorite, or help me decide which dress I should purchase for Rose!  The “Wendy” dress is one of my own favorites… Isn’t it just darling!?! 🙂  (Ooh!  I love this one too, and it’s pink! So many beautiful choices, it is so hard to pick a favorite!)

Comments will be closed Saturday night and I will update this post and contact the winner next Sunday, which happens to be our Blessed Mother’s Birthday!  God bless you all!

UPDATE: Thank you all for participating! Congratulations to texasgal I’ll be contacting you soon for your size preference and mailing information.  I hope your daughter enjoys her new bonnet and apron!

Gorgeous dresses! I think all of them are SO pretty! I like the Felicity-style dresses for the dolls, because one of my girls has Felicity, but she is retired, so it's hard to find clothes for her. I also think it would be such fun to have my girls' dolls have prairie dresses. Probably because of how much they have had playing in their own prairie dresses, which are now too small for them 🙁 Thanks for the giveaway opportunity, Jessica! Can't wait to see more "Caroline" pics!

    Hi Jessica,
I love every one of these darling dresses, aprons and bonnets. My Goddaughter who just received Caroline for Christmas last year would be the perfect little Miss to win this lovely give away…I have been around the American Girls collection since it premiered in the 1990's. We discovered this wonderful collection from the Pleasant Company when our twin daughters were in the second grade and American Girls items were the most treasured gifts for Christmas and their Birthday for many years. When our daughters were in the 5th grade my dearest Mother wanted to do something special for each of her 9 granddaughters and she gave them each the American Girl doll of their choice as an heirloom to be loved and cared for by each granddaughter and passed down to future generations. So Samantha and Kirsten have been a part of our family for many many years. Now my nieces have daughters and they are most interested in the American Girls collection as well. I have one precious grandson and I am praying for a sweet granddaughter someday so that I can share the world of the American Girls with her. It is just amazing to have watched this company grow since the 1990s and remains so popular to this day. And the American Girl dolls are just wonderful for every girl no matter her age. Even this Beppe (grandma in Friesan Dutch) has a love for the dolls and their accessories and especially their historical stories to this very day. Thank you Jessica for sharing your lovely daughters interests with us. They are very special little girls and I love to read your posts about them cooking and sewing…the wonderful skills I learned from my mother and my grandmother as a young girl. You are doing a wonderful job of mothering and nurturing your beautiful children and I admire your dedication. Sincerely, Debbie

Ooooh, please enter in my sweet girls! They love to dress up and wear their bonnets all the time. I took a look at the etsy site and love the colonial dress with the double flounce sleeve – super fancy and adorable!! 🙂

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.
