The Year of the Priest Faith Folder Give-Away!!

“Pope Benedict XVI has declared a “Year for Priests” beginning with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 19, 2009. The year will conclude in Rome with an international gathering of priests with the Holy Father on June 19, 2010. With the announcement of this Year for Priests, the Pope has declared St. John Vianney the Universal Patron of Priests on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the death of the Curé d’Ars.”

In honor of the Year of the Priest, Lindy Meyer (an amazingly creative mother of 6!) over at Faith Folders for Catholics (Lapbooks With the Catholic Family & Classroom in Mind), has put together a lovely new Faith Folder: The Year of the Priest.

This Faith Folder is in recognition of the Year of the Priest as declared by Pope Benedict XVI from June 19, 2009 to June 19, 2010. Topics covered include facts about the Year of the Priest, St. John Vianney, discernment, vocations and lots of facts and information about the priesthood.

This Faith Folder features two inserted pages with lots of information, activities and thought provoking material. There are 26 mini-books included with this Faith Folder.

Several options are included for the various books. The activities are easily adapted for a variety of age levels. The Faith Folder is also easily adaptable to allow for personalization and creative style.

We have our copy and my boys can’t wait to begin!

All of Lindy’s Faith Folders are available to download as a pdf file for only $7.99 each. Right now she is also offering a Summer Deal, from June 26th to August 9th, where you can get a Faith Folder for free with the purchase of four others! (Enter the coupon code “5for4” at checkout.) Since my boys *LOVED* putting together their Advent and Lent Lap books, I am hoping to take advantage of this special for the coming year!

In addition, Lindy has kindly offered a FREE COPY of the The Year of the Priest Faith Folder to one lucky visitor!

For your chance to win, just leave a comment on this post and if you mention this give-away on your blog I will enter you twice! The drawing will close at noon on Saturday, July 4th, and I’ll announce the winner shortly after. Good luck!

In Honor of St. Francis of Assisi

Last Wednesday we went to Marci’s home for:

Summer with the Saints

She had decided to feature St. Francis of Assisi this time and the children all had a wonderful time! Here is an overview of our afternoon:

~ Coloring Pictures ~

Marci had this picture available for the children to color. I also love the one by Charlotte and the ones found in this book.

~ Making Holy Cards ~

~ Craft Time ~

~ Snack Time ~

Snacks were simple this week: Cookies, Raisins, and Punch. It made me laugh when Rascal said, “Look Mom! I made a smiley face with dried up lips!”

~ Group Photo ~

When we came home my children pulled out all of our books about St. Francis and we’ve been looking through them all week. I also keep getting asked if we can make some more Wolf Paw Cookies!

We have plenty to keep us busy for a few days:

Wedding Highlights ~ The Reception

The reception was held in my parents back yard.
My parents have a gorgeous home (which was built by my dad) on 10 beautiful acres. It was covered in trees, brush, and poison oak when they bought the property about 18 years ago… Twelve children can come in pretty handy. 😉
The food was DELICIOUS!!!

In fact, I am still craving more of that yummy tri-tip and pasta salad! Yummmmm!!!

My parents are both from large families (My dad is one of 9 and my mom is one of 13). Unfortunately, very few of their siblings were able to make it due to the distance and other circumstances… A few of my dad’s siblings were able to make it and it was SO NICE to see them!!!

(Shannon and Bridget are the oldest and youngest in my dad’s family with 7 boys in between!)

~ The Guest Book ~

Their photographer put together an amazing guest book filled with some of Brian and Meagan’s engagement photos. This is a picture of the cover…

~ Dancing ~

Some of the children danced more than others. 😉

~ The Cake ~
At about 9:30pm I asked my brother if they were planning on having cake… Yep, leave it to the oldest sister with pregnancy cravings to make sure the cake is served. 😉 They had completely forgotten to set up the cake and the caterers were now gone. I found a few helpers and quickly converted one of the food tables to a cake table and called them over to cut the cake. It was very simple looking, but SO YUMMY!!!

I still can’t believe that Brian is married now! He was only 13 when hubby and I were married nearly 10 years ago… We are so happy for them both and my children are hoping that God will bless them with children soon so that they can have some cousins that live nearby! =)

Wedding Highlights ~ The Sacrament of Holy Matrimony

~ Ring Bearer and Flower Girl ~
You’d never know that Chiquita’s flowers had been forgotten and that her bouquet was actually a couple “extra” corsages that I tied together at the very last second, would you? 😉

~ Lighting the Candles ~
Mother of the Bride ~ Mother of the Groom

~ Trying to Smile ~
Chiquita was very nervous and so thankful to have her big brother at her side.

Wedding Highlights ~ Getting Ready

Here is a picture of my brother with his Groomsman and Ring Bearer.
In the front row, on either side of Brian, are two more of my brothers and Rascal.

I was lucky enough to snatch a picture with my brother and Dad just before the wedding.
They both looked so handsome!

The very excited Flower Girl and Ring Bearer…

…anxiously awaiting the wedding to begin.

It is not often that we have an opportunity to have someone take a picture of our family…

…and next to IMPOSSIBLE to get one with everyone smiling/looking at the camera. This is as close as we could get! =)

It is also really hard to get ALL of my parents 12 children together in one place.

This photo is just missing Jamie since she lives across the country and had just delivered the newest grandchild/niece a couple days before the wedding.

**I do have more photos to share from the wedding and reception, but first I need to go make my children breakfast. I’ll be back soon!!

A New Haircut

I took Chiquita in to have her hair cut today, in preparation for the wedding tomorrow. I have been having such a hard time fixing it lately, and figured that a trim would help… I wasn’t expecting it to end up quite so short!!! (As I mentioned earlier, I was thinking just above her shoulders…) It ended up turning out very similar to the first haircut I gave her last year. Even though my brother’s finance said she didn’t care how I fixed her hair, or if I had it cut, I am pretty sure she was surprised to see it so short when we showed up for the rehearsal…

~ After ~

So, what do you think? Does it look alright?!? It sure will be easy to fix tomorrow!!! =)

Small Successes: June 25, 2009

“It’s important for moms to recognize that all the small successes in our days can add up to one big triumph. So on Thursday of each week, we do exactly that.”
~ 1 ~

I SURVIVED Family Camp! 😉 Despite the fact that the forecast showed clear with highs in the 70’s, it rained on Friday and Sunday!!! Had I known it was going to rain, I would have packed some warmer clothes for all of us, but thankfully I did pack my children’s rain boots “just in case.” Hubby and I were both reminded of just how much work camping with young children is, not to mention we were attending daily mass, benediction, rosary, and talks as well. Even though it was wonderful, we came home EXHAUSTED. I, being the extrovert that I am, still had a great time, however, hubby said it may be awhile before I am able to talk him into a trip like that again. 😉

Camp also ended on Father’s Day and Snuggle’s 2nd birthday. Since we didn’t arrive home till nearly 7pm I was WAY too tired to make a cake. I think I will make one on his baptismal anniversary instead. Thankfully, despite my mommy guilt setting in, he was more than happy with a couple candles on his Orange Island Way Sorbet with whipped cream on top. It is better than nothing, right?!?

~ 2 ~

Our cars have been FIXED!! I mentioned last Thursday that hubby’s car was damaged by a scooter that had been left in the driveway. Well, the car ended up needing to be towed to the mechanic to have a few parts replaced. Thankfully the scooter just missed the fuel tank which helped keep the repair costs down. (It still ended up costing over $200.) 🙁 We were able to pick it up on Tuesday night.

Then, as I headed to town yesterday (my first day this week with a car while hubby was at work!), the check tire light came on and my tire was going flat. I was able to make it to Les Schwab (with all five of my children in tow) where they found a nail in my tire.

On the plus side, both cars seem to be running fine today and there has not been a bike left in the driveway ALL WEEK! lol!

~ 3 ~

My brother’s wedding is tomorrow night. I have their gift wrapped, all of our clothes pressed and ready to go (including Chiquita’s Flower Girl dress and Rascal’s Tux), a hair appointment scheduled for Chiquita in about an hour (I decided to shorten her hair to just above her shoulders), and one for myself tomorrow morning (I thought it would be a nice distraction from my questionable tummy size fun change to have some highlights added!). The rehearsal and rehearsal dinner are tonight and the actual wedding is tomorrow night!!! Please keep my brother Brian and his soon-to-be bride, Meagan, in your prayers!

~ Bonus ~

Oh!!!! I REMEMBERED to be the tooth fairy for once… Barely! 😉

What are your Small Successes this week?

Stop by Faith and Family Live to read more of this week’s Small Successes.

    LOST: First Tooth!

Our little Twinkle Toes is GROWING up!!

My tooth fell out and left a space
So big my tongue can touch my face,
And every time I smile I show
The place where something used to grow.
I miss my tooth as you can guess
But now I have to brush one less!

    She’s Here!

I was so excited to hear that my sister Jamie delivered her precious little girl, Nadia Marie Bernadette, today!

My brother-in-law just emailed me a picture and she is ADORABLE!! How I wish they didn’t live on the other side of the country and I could meet my newest niece in person…

The delivery went well (and super fast!) and Jamie is doing great. However, please keep Nadia in your prayers since she will be spending the night in the NICU due to some minor breathing complications.

Thank you all for your prayers!

    Happy Baptismal Day…

    … to our dear Goddaughter!

I find it so hard to believe that you are already six years old and celebrating the sixth anniversary of your baptism today…  Where has the time gone?!?

Loving God, Creator of all good things,
Thank you for the gift of life given to our godchild.
What a privilege it was for us to stand as witnesses for the Church
when our godchild was washed in baptismal waters.
Lord, help us to be faithful to you all the days of our lives.

As our godchild grows in age and faith,
enable us to be a good example for her
of how to live as a follower of Jesus.
Through our love and concern, in moments of joy and sorrow,
allow us to reveal your loving face, O God.
We pray this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

**It’s also hard to believe that the little baby girl in my tummy is now almost 6 years old as well AND recently discovered her first loose tooth. Time is going by TOO fast!!

    A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.

    Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.
