Catholic Artworks
Ever since posting links to Catholic Artworks, I’ve been receiving emails asking which of their CD’s I purchased… I actually splurged and ordered their whole Teachers Helper Collection. It currently contains 21 CD’s which are regularly priced $20 each, but when you buy the whole set they are discounted to only $10 each and home educators receive AN ADDITIONAL 50% off which drops the price to only $5.00 each!! I also purchased the Faith Keepers Combo for $15 (half of $30).
It was quite a bit to spend, but I have already gotten a LOT of use out of these CD’s and am sure I will be using them for years to come. My two absolute FAVORITES are Teachers Helper #7 and the Faith Keepers Combo.

The Teachers Helper #7 has been the perfect addition to the Alphabet Path, since it includes the whole Saints Alphabet from An Alphabet of Catholic Saints in both color and black & white, as well as with and without the names, and my girls have just loved coloring the saints to match the book and our own Alphabet of Saints!
We’ve also made Mangers for Baby Jesus using Teachers Helper #2, Works of Mercy Flash Cards using #17, and a number of other little projects.
Another reason I wanted to post this today, is that I wanted to let you all know that I just found out that they are offering even MORE specials for Home Schooling Families this month!! It looks like I should have waited just a little longer to order and I could have gotten the Faith Keepers Combo for FREE. ☺
Hopefully some of you will be able to take advantage of their great New Year Special:

We were too busy getting ready for the feast of St. Nicholas!
for with An Alphabet of Catholic Saints
and you can print the copy work we used here.
We pulled out all of our books about St. Nicholas to read:
The Miracle of Saint Nicholas (Golden Key Books)
Saint Nicholas: The Real Story of the Christmas Legend
The Legend of Saint Nicholas
Saint Nicholas
St. Nicholas: A Closer Look at Christmas
The Real Santa Claus: Legends of Saint Nicholas (Phyllis Fogelman Books)
We also listened to the CD Legends of St. Nicholas: Medieval Chant & Polyphony and watched Nicholas: The Boy Who Became Santa
.
I ended up making a coloring page using a Precious Moments image and the Quote from God’s Alphabet for the letter N:
N is for Night Prayers
which faithfully say
and angels will guard you until it is day!

We’ve been making this for years now, and it is always a favorite activity!

Charlotte also has a a beautiful illustration of St. Margaret Mary which I printed out for the girls to color as well!
We looked through old photo albums, Grandpa’s Navy Memorabilia, and even dressed Snuggles in one of Hubby’s old baby outfits! 😉
We also read One Morning in Maine by Robert McClosky which is another one of my favorite childhood books which my dad use to read to us all of the time. Now he reads it to his Grandchildren. Such wonderful memories!

We made the “My Little Book of Church Manners” from

(We’ll save it to add to the Lap Book when we make it in the future.)
Back to Reality…
On the 12th Day of Christmas…

My little Catholic Cuisine Chefs,
all ready to bake a Crown Cake for Epiphany!
We kept it simple by just adding THREE Spices (Cinnamon, Allspice and Cloves) to a Yellow Cake mix, representing the THREE KINGS who came from the East…
Amazon Prime ~ Free Trial!
Do you have Amazon Prime?? I’ve wanted to upgrade to Amazon Prime (Free 2-day shipping from Amazon) for a long time, but have not been able to spend the $79.00 it costs per year… I had a month long trial back in 2006 and just loved it. SO, I was very excited when they offered another free month long trial back in November. It came in totally handy for those last Christmas gifts I was purchasing.
Anyhow, my trial expired just before Christmas and I was already missing it when another offer arrived in my inbox!! Amazon is currently offering a FREE THREE MONTH TRIAL of Amazon Prime to anyone who places an order containing a Textbook!
That’s not that hard to do, for all of us home educators, right!?! I went ahead and ordered one of the books off my wishlist and now have Amazon Prime once again, at least until April!
Here’s the link to the promotion.
Scenes from Christmas Day :: Opening Gifts
Everyone, well almost everyone, loved the little Folkmanis Finger Puppets found in the stockings! They each received a few of them and we now have a basket full, since I found them on clearance this past summer. (Snuggles was initially terrified of them, but is slowly warming up to the cute little critters…)
Don’t you love seeing children get super excited about receiving books? I know I do! But then, books have always been one of my favorite gifts to receive, ever since I was Rascals age!
Can you tell that the boys were also excited about their new Rifles?!
The girls love their new dolls and have been taking them everywhere.
This is one of my favorite pictures from the day:
Though, I must admit, I love this one too:
The girls were also so so so excited about their new little doll house and fairy lodge. They are both SO cute!
He even saved some of the “wrapping paper” on which I attempted to copy a picture from the book, which is written by the little elf with “his slippery, sloppy feet, all red with cherry juice.” (Inside is a frozen blueberry pie.) And, although I did use another Gymboree box for the last package, it was filled with new reading glasses, a new John Grisham book (his current favorite author), and a book light
. According to my sisters, I win the prize for the best gift for dad. Ever… there’s no way to top The Blueberry Pie Elf! 😉 It was so much fun!
Scenes from Christmas Day :: Battle for the Bouncer
On Christmas Day, as I was preparing Brunch after Mass, I asked Captain to go and get Snuggles old bouncy chair from under the crib so I could use it for the baby.
Well apparently Snuggles was not quite ready to pass it down to his new little sister… He was not very happy when I placed her in it, and as soon as I took Rose back out of the chair, he immediately climbed in and tried buckling himself.
I think he was reminiscing about his days of being able to “Move it Move it.” 😉
Well, the timer is about to go off, for the crown cake the girls and I have baking in the oven, so it is time for me to go… Hopefully I will be back later to finish posting our Christmas Pictures.
