Hadley Hope

Since so many of you have been praying for our friends the Hadleys (whose children are suffering from a rare disease called Niemann-Pick Type C) and have also generously donated to the Hadley Hope Fund, both directly and though the Easter Hope Challenges I have hosted over the past couple years, I wanted to share the following video with you:

Please continue to keep their family in your prayers!

Catholic Artworks

Ever since posting links to Catholic Artworks, I’ve been receiving emails asking which of their CD’s I purchased…   I actually splurged and ordered their whole Teachers Helper Collection.  It currently contains 21 CD’s which are regularly priced $20 each, but when you buy the whole set they are discounted to only $10 each and home educators receive AN ADDITIONAL 50% off which drops the price to only $5.00 each!!   I also purchased the Faith Keepers Combo for $15 (half of $30).

It was quite a bit to spend, but I have already gotten a LOT of use out of these CD’s and am sure I will be using them for years to come.  My two absolute FAVORITES are Teachers Helper #7 and the Faith Keepers Combo.

The Teachers Helper #7 has been the perfect addition to the Alphabet Path, since it includes the whole Saints Alphabet from An Alphabet of Catholic Saints in both color and black & white, as well as with and without the names, and my girls have just loved coloring the saints to match the book and our own Alphabet of Saints!

The Faith Keepers Combo is filled with images (also in both color and black & white) for printing Holy Cards, but I’ve been printing them out in larger sizes in black & white to use as coloring pages for various feast days,  Little Flower meetings, and even in color for the girls Little Flower Tote Bags.

We’ve also made Mangers for Baby Jesus using Teachers Helper #2, Works of Mercy Flash Cards using #17,  and a number of other little projects.

Another reason I wanted to post this today, is that I wanted to let you all know that I just found out that they are offering even MORE specials for Home Schooling Families this month!!  It looks like I should have waited just a little longer to order and I could have gotten the Faith Keepers Combo for FREE.  ☺

Hopefully some of you will be able to take advantage of their great New Year Special:

New Year Special for Home Schooling Families only!

Now until January 30th, you can get all 24 CD’s of the Teacher’s Helper (ideal for grades pre-K to 5) or all 24 CD’s of the Creative Catholic (ideal for grades 6 and up) for only $120 ($5 a CD) or $200 for all 48! Not sure if you would like our series? You can order any of the editions below at $10 each (these prices are half off for Home Schooling Families, this is our way of supporting your holy mission!) and if you like them, you can use your purchase price towards the purchase of the rest of the series!

We are also offering our Discover the Rosary Mysteries “Discovery Pack Special” at more than Half Off! Scroll down to see this fabulous Home School teaching aid!

~ N is for Night Prayers ~

I just LOVE the book God’s Alphabet and have decided to incorporate it into the remainder of our Alphabet Path journey this year.  Like the Picture Dictionary we added to our home collection as one of our O Antiphon treats, this book had been recently reprinted, and was originally published back in 1938!

I ended up making a coloring page using a Precious Moments image and the Quote from God’s Alphabet for the letter N:

N is for Night Prayers
which faithfully say
and angels will guard you until it is day!

Over our Christmas break the girls also enjoyed working on Lydia’s latest coloring pages to add to their notebooks as well!

In addition to their Modelling Wax letter M’s (Can you tell they were not very Motivated during M week?!?), the girls also worked on making the letter M using Handwriting Without Tears Hands-On Materials and Kimberlee’s Grey Block Paper.

We also read One Morning in Maine by Robert McClosky which is another one of my favorite childhood books which my dad use to read to us all of the time.   Now he reads it to his Grandchildren. Such wonderful memories!

Star Shaped Pancakes

My little Catholic Cuisine Chefs,
all ready to bake a Crown Cake for Epiphany!

We kept it simple by just adding THREE Spices (Cinnamon, Allspice and Cloves) to a Yellow Cake mix, representing the THREE KINGS who came from the East…

… and then baking it in a Crown Shaped Pan!

We read a few favorite books and gave three gifts to our children!

“From the east came the Magi to Bethlehem to adore the Lord; and opening their treasures they offered precious gifts: gold for the great King, incense for the true God, and myrrh in symbol of His burial.”

Amazon Prime ~ Free Trial!

Do you have Amazon Prime?? I’ve wanted to upgrade to Amazon Prime (Free 2-day shipping from Amazon) for a long time, but have not been able to spend the $79.00 it costs per year… I had a month long trial back in 2006 and just loved it. SO, I was very excited when they offered another free month long trial back in November. It came in totally handy for those last Christmas gifts I was purchasing.

Anyhow, my trial expired just before Christmas and I was already missing it when another offer arrived in my inbox!! Amazon is currently offering a FREE THREE MONTH TRIAL of Amazon Prime to anyone who places an order containing a Textbook!

That’s not that hard to do, for all of us home educators, right!?! I went ahead and ordered one of the books off my wishlist and now have Amazon Prime once again, at least until April!

Here’s the link to the promotion.

* And, speaking of Amazon, a huge THANK YOU to all of you who purchased from Amazon after using my links this past month! I now have a nice little bit of commission to add to my MacBook Fund (I can dream can’t I?!) or, on the more practical side, to buy diapers with… (◕‿◕✿)

Scenes from Christmas Day :: Opening Gifts

Everyone, well almost everyone, loved the little Folkmanis Finger Puppets found in the stockings! They each received a few of them and we now have a basket full, since I found them on clearance this past summer. (Snuggles was initially terrified of them, but is slowly warming up to the cute little critters…)

Don’t you love seeing children get super excited about receiving books? I know I do! But then, books have always been one of my favorite gifts to receive, ever since I was Rascals age!

Can you tell that the boys were also excited about their new Rifles?!

I also really enjoyed watching the boys open these gifts, which were packaged in the *all too familiar* clothes boxes from Gymboree. Who knew that they could possibly hold anything other than clothes! 😉

The girls love their new dolls and have been taking them everywhere.

This is one of my favorite pictures from the day:

Though, I must admit, I love this one too:

Snuggles eventually stopped pouting and was pretty excited to open his gifts.

He has been playing with these nesting blocks everyday since Christmas and is really enjoying them… I knew he would! Though it does bother him that the purple part of the rainbow is smaller than the blue. It’s out of order in his little mind and so he keeps trying to but the purple block first.

The girls were also so so so excited about their new little doll house and fairy lodge. They are both SO cute!

In the evening we headed out to my parents home for dinner and a family “secret santa” gift exchange. I ended up drawing my dad which was HARD but fun! My dad doesn’t ever *need* anything, has just about everything, and is usually annoyed by gift exchanges. However, he IS sentimental, so I knew he would love the book I found him earlier this year during “B” week.
Yes, I bought my dad a children’s picture book… The Blueberry Pie Elf! Some of my favorite childhood memories are of my dad reading this book to us when we were little. He LOVED this story, and he passed that love on to us. It had been out of print for many years (it was reprinted a year ago) and his well loved copy was tattered and missing pages. I wish I had his reaction on video. He was very excited and immediately asked if my children had heard it yet… I love my dad!

He even saved some of the “wrapping paper” on which I attempted to copy a picture from the book, which is written by the little elf with “his slippery, sloppy feet, all red with cherry juice.” (Inside is a frozen blueberry pie.) And, although I did use another Gymboree box for the last package, it was filled with new reading glasses, a new John Grisham book (his current favorite author), and a book light. According to my sisters, I win the prize for the best gift for dad. Ever… there’s no way to top The Blueberry Pie Elf! 😉 It was so much fun!

There! I managed to finish posting pictures from Christmas Day, before the end of the 12th day of Christmas… barely! I’ll be back tomorrow to post a few pictures from today.
A blessed Epiphany to you all!
*Links to some of the gifts the children received this year can be found here.

Scenes from Christmas Day :: Battle for the Bouncer

On Christmas Day, as I was preparing Brunch after Mass, I asked Captain to go and get Snuggles old bouncy chair from under the crib so I could use it for the baby.

Well apparently Snuggles was not quite ready to pass it down to his new little sister… He was not very happy when I placed her in it, and as soon as I took Rose back out of the chair, he immediately climbed in and tried buckling himself.

I think he was reminiscing about his days of being able to “Move it Move it.” 😉

Well, the timer is about to go off, for the crown cake the girls and I have baking in the oven, so it is time for me to go… Hopefully I will be back later to finish posting our Christmas Pictures.

I hope you are all enjoying the traditional feast of the Epiphany today,
the 12th day of Christmas!

A Little About Me

Hi! I'm Jessica, a Roman Catholic wife and home educating mother to our nine children. I was home educated myself, along with my eleven younger siblings. I have a special devotion to St. Therese, through whom I have been given much help and many blessings--the beautiful "Shower of Roses" that she has sent my way! Here I will record a few of the blessings I treasure. Please remember that what you see here is just a little glimpse at our lives, so please say a prayer for us, as we continue to strive for holiness.

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.
