How much are you willing to fight?
If you have a few free minutes, hop on over and listen.

Uh oH!
Me (to my 4 oldest children): “Come here you guys, I want to know what you were doing, RIGHT NOW!”
Twinkle Toes (age 4–in her cute little slurry voice): “We’re not going to tell you, you wanna know why?”
Me (totally caught off guard): “WHAT, why?!?”
Twinkly Toes: “Cause then we’ll all be in trouble!”

Saints Meme

Awhile back I was tagged by Amy for ANOTHER meme! I’m sorry it has taken so long to finish Amy, I have been working on it for awhile… It really took some thought!
Rules:
Answer the questions! You can give a reason for the answer if you like. As for tagging people, you tag as many as you want or as little…minimum of one. There’s no obligation to play.Last of all, have fun!
1.First Saint you “met”?
I have known and loved the saints for as long as I can remember… I really loved St. Elizabeth of Hungary as a child! However, the first saint that I have felt a very special connection to is St. Therese.
2. Favorite Saint(s)?
Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Thérèse of Lisieux, and St. Elizabeth of Hungary.
3. Patron saint for the year?
I received mine yesterday and it is St. Leonard. I honestly am not familiar with him, and so I’m looking forward to getting to know him this year!
4. Favorite book by a saint?
Hum… My favorite is My Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis. He hasn’t been declared a Saint, but I hope that someday he will be! You can actually read it online here. I also really love Sermons of the Cure of Ars
by St. John Vianney.
5. Saint book you are reading now?
I am just starting to read a book that my mother and father-in-law gave me for Christmas titled The Whole World Will Love Me by Dorothy Scallon.
6. Favorite movie of a saint?
I have so very many that I LOVE, but my favorite is Padre Pio Miracle Man! The next
one two three on my favorite list are The Miracle of St. Therese, Teresa of the Andes, and The Song of Bernadette
.

The Story of a Soul by St. Thérèse.

about St. Francis of Assisi, The Golden Thread
about St. Ignatius of Loyola, Set All Afire
about St. Francis Xavier, The Quite Light
about St. Thomas Aquinas, and The Restless Flame
about St. Augustine. They are all WONDERFUL!
9. Saint (besides your favorites) you’d want to meet?
Saint Catherine of Alexandria & Saint Clare of Assisi

OH, there are so many! Definitely Our Blessed Mother to start, as well as Saint Gerard, Saint Christopher, Saint Anthony, Saint Anne, Saint Michael and Saint Catherine of Alexandria to name a few…
11.Favorite saint quote?
There are SO many!! A couple favorites include: “Without love, deeds, even the most brilliant, count as nothing.” ~ St. Therese; “Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.” ~ St. Francis of Assisi
12. Favorite Holy Card?
I love this particular St. Therese holy card… Hubby and I had it personalized with our names, our wedding date, and the novena to St. Therese and gave it to all the guests at our wedding! When hubby and I were dating… I said a novena to St. Therese, and asked for a sign if he was the one I was meant to marry. Part of the novena says: “Pick me a rose from the heavenly garden and send it to me with a message of love…” Anyhow, on the last day of the novena, March 17, 1999, I opened the door of my apartment on my way to work, and found a single red rose from Sean! He didn’t know that I had been saying the novena, and it was also the very first flower he had ever given me! I just love St. Therese!

Am I that forgetful?
Last night, I loaded the kids into the car to take the boys to Blue Knights, and as I was starting the engine Captain says:
Captain: “Mom, did you remember to lock the door?”
Me: “Yes, I did.”
Captain: “Did you get your purse?”
Me: “Yep, I have it.”
Captain: “Did you get your cell phone?”
Me (as I start to pull out of the drive way): “Yep, have that too!”
Captain: “Did you remember to get the diaper bag?”
Me (wondering… who is the mom anyways? 😉 ): “Got it!”
Captain: “OK, we can go now!”
Me: “Thank you, Captain!”
Well… I guess it was justified since I forgot about Blue Knights till an hour prior!! Oops…. It was one of my rather unorganized days! At least I have a great helper making sure I don’t forget anything else, right?
What she said!
I wanted to share a post with you that I just read over at These Thy Gifts titled:
Heather was able to put into words, exactly what I have been thinking! I love blogging and sharing little bits and pieces of what we have been up to… And although, it may seem like I “have it together,” I am a work in progress, and my life is FAR from perfect. I have so very many areas in which I struggle on a daily basis, as some of you know far too well! 😉 **Thank you again Regina for taking my girls last week so I could start to catch up on the piles of bookkeeping!
I had a friend tell me recently that she doesn’t look at my blog very often because it depresses her and makes her feel like she is not doing enough with her own children. I couldn’t believe it. This was coming out of the mouth of a person whom I TOTALLY admire and who has more energy than ANY OTHER MOM I know and is extremely fun and creative!!!
We all have our individual strengths and weaknesses, and none of us can do it all! I have to remind myself all the time, or others have to remind me, to stop using The Measuring Stick. As Meredith said, “Fact of the matter is, you are doing God’s work every day, period!!! Only HE can know if you’re doing it well enough, lovingly enough, faithfully enough!”
And, in regards to Doing it All, Kim reminds us that,
Whatever circumstances you have been gifted with strive to make the most of them. If you have a home, take really good care of it. Many people are not so lucky. It may not be a mansion but for this time, now, it is yours. If you have a husband, take even better of him. Similarly, many are not so fortunate and we don’t know how many days we will get to be a blessing to him. Don’t take that for granted. If you have children, turn off the computer and go join them. Don’t worry about what the rest of us are doing, and be assured NO one is doing it all. Everyone is making choices and many are making choices you would not be happy with in the end.
So… Right now, I am off to start cleaning up the mess we made the last couple days… Then I need to start working on getting some of my laundry done, I am SO behind!! (I wish I was as organized with my laundry as my cousin!) Then I have about 16 hours of bookkeeping left to catch up on–that has been piling up since I was pregnant with Snuggles and needs to be done NOW. Does any one want to come and help???
So, like Heather said, “please, keep on encouraging me, keep on asking questions if you think I might be able to help in some way, keep on letting me know if some of these hard-earned beaten-into-my-hard-head nuggets of wisdom are helpful to you. But please stop comparing or assuming or despairing, okay? “
Have a wonderful weekend!!!! GOD BLESS!!!!!
LOVE-ly Valentine Memories
I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day!!!
We had a very fun day! The weather was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! AND, when I made it out to the kitchen, there was a sweet little gift from my hubby! As for me, I gave hubby a copy of one of his favorite movies (on DVD) and a gift card to our favorite coffee shop.
Much to the children’s excitement, the birds are coming back and the various animals are appearing more often! Although, the animals are a bit skittish, especially when it comes to Chiquita, so getting pictures of them is not the easiest thing to do, but we did get a couple!
The morning was a bit hectic… I think I kept the kids up too late the night before, so the girls were rather cranky! However, their crankiness didn’t last too long, before wearing off…
So, after breakfast, the kids set to work decorating the cupcakes we made the night before. In the meantime, I was surprised with a phone call from a new friend! It was so nice to finally “meet” Ruth!! She is such a dear sweet person! In fact, it really is SUCH a small world. I first ran across Ruth’s blog one day as I was browsing through various links. Her post at the time was a video titled Redneck Bobsled. “Hum… I thought, that sounds interesting!” The kids and I watched it a quite a few times, it was SO funny. So, then I had to see just who those “friends” were that Ruth’s kids were playing with that day… So I hopped over and found myself browsing through some baptism pictures. Now, I am familiar with the Tridentine Rite since 2 (soon to be 3) of my brother-in-laws are priests in the FSSP, and this particular baptism was done in that Extra-ordinary Rite. So… I was looking through the pictures to see if I by chance recognized the Priest. Nope… He didn’t look familiar. HOWEVER, when I looked at the family picture all of a sudden I noticed that the Grandparents WERE familiar!! They were my sister Jamie’s mother and father-in-law!!! I was looking at my sisters sister-in-law’s blog!! Isn’t that cool! Anyhow… It really is a small world! Isn’t it?
After the kids were done decorating the cupcakes we set out to deliver some of them to a few friends. This was the first time we have done this, and it was great!! It is so nice to find ways to have your children do things for others… It doesn’t take much to add a bit of sunshine to someone else’s day!
**The sun was shining SO MUCH, that Capitan had a really hard time smiling! He was trying though!!
After that, we headed to our Valentine Party that Rascal’s Godmother out together! At the party, the kids got to decorate even more cupcakes, pet horses, bunnies, chickens and goats, exchange cards and have tons of fun all afternoon playing with their friends.
After the party we headed to town to pick up our heart shaped pizzas, meet up with daddy after work, and then, it was out to Grandpa and Grandmas for a last minute BIRTHDAY PARTY for my not so little anymore BROTHER Scott!!! You just can’t NOT have a birthday party on your 18TH BIRTHDAY!!!!!! So, we arrived with the rest of our cupcakes, and the pizzas to celebrate!! Scott was determined to get ALL those candles out and was swinging away with his hand, much to Rascal’s enjoyment, once he ran out of breath! I just want to know what he wished for that he wanted so badly!
Happy Birthday Scott! I can’t believe you are now 18! I clearly remember the night you were born, coming home from our 4-H meeting to find out that mom was in labor!! Our Valentine’s day baby! 😉
While we were at my parents… and since for some reason I never got around to it… my Dad read the children the story of St.Valentine! (Now if I could only find my Catholic Mosaic coloring book… See how unorganized I really am!)
As we were leaving, I was waiting in the car while hubby ran in to grab his glasses, and I was SURE I saw the tree in front of me bloom before my eyes!! Maybe not, but since it is the first bloom I have seen this year, I took a picture anyways!
Can you see it???
Probably not… Here is the same picture, cropped around the darling little bud:
It was even a red bud, just perfect for Valentine’s Day! I am so excited! Spring is almost here!!
Valentine Fun!
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day! The kids have been counting down the days since they noticed it coming up on our Lenten Calendar… It is going to be a fun day! Rascal’s godmother is hosting a party for more than thirty kids a few families at her home! After the party we will be picking up a couple heart shape pizza’s for dinner at home. My kids are so excited!!!
Last week I took the easy way out let the kids pick out boxes of Valentine cards to give to their friends. So, today they worked on signing them.
The kids will be decorating cupcakes at the party tomorrow… But we decided to make some extras (tonight) to give as gifts, to a few neighbors and elderly homebound friends, on our way to the party. So, after dinner and baths, I surprised the kids with a couple more “Chef hats & aprons” from Pampered Chef (they are currently on clearance) and we set to work.
Captain, recently studied recipe measurements in his Saxon math, so I asked him and Rascal to get out the rest of the ingredients, and figure out how much of each was needed.
It’s all ready, and I’m soooo excited to use my new cute little heart dish!
Also, I didn’t get completely out of making Valentine cards this year… We decided to make one for Jesus and a few to go along with these cupcakes. We used the idea provided in A Year With God. It is such a great way to use the pictures off of those beautiful Christmas cards we were given!
We still need to write on them, but here are a few pictures of the first one:
I hope you all have a very happy Valentine’s Day, and that you are surrounded by loved ones!
***Note to Self
The next time hubby and I go out, make sure to ask the babysitter to put a pull-up on our 2 year old before putting her in bed for the night. 😉
