Novena to Saint Teresa of the Infant Jesus: Day 5

“The good God does not need years to accomplish His work of love in a soul; one ray from His Heart can, in an instant, make His flower bloom for eternity…” – St. Therese, VI letter to her sister Celine

The following novena is from the Blessed Be God prayer book.

Novena to Saint Teresa of the Infant Jesus
The Little Flower of Jesus

Prayer for Each Day

O GLORIOUS TERESA of the Infant Jesus, through whose unshaken confidence God was so glorified, obtain for me the same filial trust and love which animated thy innocent heart and soul. Grant that I may practice self-abnegation, patience and confidence, and that my confidence may be a fountain of blessings which God pours out upon me. As confidence was for thee the key to the greatest treasures of God, so it may induce me to throw myself into my Saviour’s arms and say with David: “In Thee, O my God, I put my trust, let me not be confounded.” Amen.

Fifth Day
PRAYER

O MY Lord, Innocence itself, Thou hast endured all manner of opprobrious treatment for love of me. Give me the grace of humility, self-abnegation, and patience that I may imitate Thy spouse, Saint Teresa of the Infant Jesus, and say with all my heart, O my despised Jesus, grant me the merits of Thy humility and patience to bear in tranquil spirit all the sufferings of this life, and then enjoy Thy company with Thy spouse, the Little Flower. Amen.   Our Father, Hail Mary, and Gloria…

Act of Oblation of Saint Teresa of the Infant Jesus

MY LORD and my God! O Most Blessed Trinity! I desire to love Thee and to make Thee loved by mankind. Since Thou hast loved me so much as to give me the only begotten Son for my Saviour and my Spouse, the infinite treasures of His merits are mine. These merits I offer to Thee with joy, beseeching Thee to behold me only as in the Face of Jesus, and in His Sacred Heart burning with love. Moreover, I offer Thee all the merits of the saints – in heaven and on earth – together with their acts of love, and those of the holy Angels. Lastly, I offer Thee, O Blessed Trinity, the love and merits of the Blessed Virgin, my dearest Mother. To her I entrust this oblation, begging her to present it to Thee. Amen.

Holy Child Jesus, have mercy on us.
Our Lady of Victories, pray for us.
Saint Teresa of the Infant Jesus, pray for us.
Little Flower of Jesus, pray for us.
Amen.

Novena to Saint Teresa of the Infant Jesus: Day 4

“To offer oneself as a victim to Divine Love is not to offer oneself to sweetness – to consolation; but to every anguish, every bitterness, for Love lives only by sacrifice; and the more a soul wills to be surrendered to Love, the more must she be surrendered to suffering.” – St. Therese, Story of A Soul, Chapter XII

Fourth Day
PRAYER

O MY God and my Lord, Thou givest me what is best for me, and as Thy Little Flower consecrated herself to Thee as a sacrificial victim to endure for love of Thee all sufferings and pains, so also may I accept whatever hardships and contradictions Thou hast destined for my sanctification with perfect submission and even with cheerful mind, that I may be able to say as Thy cherished spouse, “O Jesus, I am a victim of Thy love.” Amen.   Our Father, Hail Mary, and Gloria…

Third Day
PRAYER

O MY Jesus, grant that I may love Thee, as much as Saint Teresa, Thy Little Flower, loved Thee, and that I may say with her: “O my Jesus, I beg Thee only for Thy love without limits and without bounds. Grant, O my Jesus, that for love of Thee I may be a martyr. I wish to love Thee as Thou hast never been loved.” And thou, O little Saint, succor and assist me that I may never show myself ungrateful to Him Who loved me so much. Seven Quick Takes :: Pray, Hope and Don’t Worry

“Pray, hope, and don’t worry. Worry is useless.
God is merciful and will hear your prayer.” – Padre Pio

I’ve had this post sitting in my drafts folder for over a month now and keep adding to it… I’ve shared most of these pictures and updates over on Instagram, but wanted to record them here on the blog too. With today being the feast of St. Pio, it’s time to wrap it up. His reminder to “pray, hope, and don’t worry” has been on my mind constantly… I’ve been praying, hoping, and trying my best not to worry… which is definitely easier said than done! 😉

This upcoming week will be my husband’s final week at his current job, then he’ll have one week off before starting his new job. He was originally scheduled to start on October 1st (feast of St. Therese) but then it was changed to October 15th (feast of St. Teresa of Avila)… “Tomayto, tomahto” is what our 16 year old son had to say about that! ❤

Before my husband even applied for the job we had planned a vacation to take the girls to summer camp at the beginning of August and it ended up turning into a house hunting trip!

Visit This Ain’t the Lyceum for more Quick Takes.

We started the long drive home early this morning, but yesterday afternoon I was able to spend some time at Carmel ❤️ We considered living in town, but ended up making an offer on a home we looked at on Monday (August 6th), accepted the counter offer, and are now under contract with 60 days to get the financing in place and our current home sold 🙏🏻 The new house is on 4.5 acres in a wonderful location just over a mile from this peaceful chapel. You can even hear Angelus bells from the property! Please say a prayer that it all works out and our home sells quickly. 🌹

What do you think? Is 254 coloring books excessive? 🤦‍♀️ #thisafternoonsproject #cleaningbookshelves #gettingreadytomove #18yearsofcoloringbooks #andthensome

The Story of Our Lady Coloring Book • I Believe in God Coloring Book • It’s a Joy to Go to Church Coloring Book
God Is Wonderful Coloring BookThe Rose Queen Coloring Book • How Jesus Lived Coloring Book

I ended up selling, donating or throwing away about two thirds of the coloring books… That still leaves us with an excessive amount but it’s progress!

“May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.”
– St. Therese 🌹

It has been a crazy two weeks of long days and hard work preparing, but our home of over 18 years went up on the market yesterday afternoon and we had our first showing today. The tears hit when I saw it listed online and again when the sign went up at the bottom of the driveway… Praying it sells quickly as we work towards closing escrow on our new home.

— 4 :: August 30th  —

Our yard looks the worst this time of year… everything is SO dry! The feedback we got from our first showing was that “They loved the home, the property itself wasn’t quite what they were looking for!” So this week’s goal has been to clean up the property some more including the garden, keep the sprinklers going, and add some plants inside and out! My sister Mary came over on Tuesday to help. #fireseason #sendrain
— 5 :: August 30th

The drinks and fresh baked cookies were mostly gone when we returned home after our second showing yesterday afternoon … now if someone would just buy the house already! It’s nearly impossible to keep the whole house spotless with a family of ten… I don’t think we can do this long term! {Between the math tutor and cleaning the house, we didn’t have time for lunch, but as we drove through town our local bank was hosting their grand opening! God provides!}  #loveoursmalltown

— 6 :: September 4th

We headed to the library for our 3rd showing. I was so hopeful for this one… Their realtor had emailed right after it was listed saying they were cash buyers, needing a home quickly, and making their third trip up from California. He said he thought this would finally be the “perfect house” for them. Ultimately we ended up being third on their list and they made an offer on a different house.

The lack of a shop/garage was once again the issue. We’ve dropped our price twice since then, to more than make up for the lack of shop (we’ve done most of the prep work for building one too) but we’ve been told that August and September are some of the slowest months for selling a home.  I know it will sell in God’s timing.

Update: We actually ended up having an unexpected showing today while we were at Mass! I think now that school has started, fall is here, and the endless smoke is finally starting to clear, that home sales will pick up again in our area.

— 7 :: August 24th —

Let’s go back to August for a minute…

SO many things kept coming up and we were worried that we weren’t going to end up getting the home. To complicate matters, the sellers ended up getting a couple of cash back up offers, after we had already accepted their counter offer, and would have been happy to have us fall through. (We’ve been told that we’re getting an amazing deal on the new place even though it was a quite a bit more than we had hoped to spend.) It seemed like every few days I was needing to get additional paperwork to prove this or that, while Sean was off fighting wildfires…

My parents stepped in to loan us some of the down we needed since our current home hasn’t sold yet. Their love and generosity, despite not being thrilled about us moving (and taking most of their grandchildren) out of state, has been such a blessing! They know that the move is a good one for our family.

On August 24th (the feast of St. Rose) everything finally started falling into place and our realtor called to say that the closing date was going to be moved to either October 1st (new feast of St. Therese) or October 3rd (traditional feast of St. Therese)!!! Our realtor’s birthday also happens to be October 1st… Of course it is! 🙂

Looks like we will be getting a new home for our anniversary on October 2nd this year!

O ALMIGHTY God, Who art admirable in Thy Saints, grant me the gift of hope with which Saint Teresa of the Infant Jesus was endowed, that I may believe firmly Thy words, “Whatsoever you shall ask in My Name, it shall be given to you,” and as Saint Teresa abandoned all the vanities of the world and consecrated herself to Thee with unshaken faith and confidence, may I also despise all that the world appreciates, and seek Thee alone Who art my love and my all. Novena to Saint Teresa of the Infant Jesus: First Day

St. Therese Holy Card from our wedding • Blessed Be God prayer book

“After my death, I will let fall a shower of roses. I will spend my heaven doing good upon earth. I will raise up a mighty host of little saints. My mission is to make God loved…”

The feast day of St. Thérèse is coming up! Her feast is celebrated on October 1st (New Calendar) and on October 3rd (Traditional Calendar)… We celebrate both feasts in our home!

“The Roman Catholic Church celebrates the feast of St. Therese, the Little Flower, on October 1st each year. This date was chosen because Therese died on September 30th. Following the ancient custom of celebrating their entrance into heaven the next day, October 1st was chosen as the day to celebrate Therese’s life and eternity. Some people may remember that her feast day was previously October 3rd. That date was established for several reasons, including a packed liturgical calendar. In the liturgical renewal of the 1970’s, when the calendar of saints was updated and refined, St. Therese’s feast was properly moved to the more appropriate October 1st date. It is interesting to note that St. Therese’s home Church in France celebrates her feast day on the last Saturday of September, no matter what the date.” – Society of the Little Flower

Novenas for her intercession can be prayed anytime. In anticipation of her upcoming feast(s), we are starting another nine day novena (Novena to Saint Teresa of the Infant Jesus found in Blessed Be God) for a special intention, now through the eve of her feast. I will share the prayers for each day here on the blog.

*Another beautiful novena to St. Therese is the Rose Novena. It was the very first Novena I prayed to her and I’ll be praying it as well. I’ve shared the printable prayer card here

O ALMIGHTY God and Creator of all things, Who to banish from human hearts lukewarmness in Thy service and inflame souls in divine love, hast enriched the soul of Thy Little Flower with such unshaken faith that she desired most ardently to give her life for Thee: I beseech Thee, by the merits of the lively faith of Saint Teresa of the Infant Jesus, to infuse into my soul such an ardent faith that I may firmly believe all the truths taught by the Holy Catholic Church, and practice all the virtues until death.   Our Father, Hail Mary, and Gloria…

Exaltation of the Holy Cross

X is for the CROSS
when we can’t have our way,
“All for Thee, JESUS,”
we must then learn to say
The celebration of Holy Mass has the same value as the Death of Jesus on the Cross.
– St. Thomas Aquinas

From here on earth, Love cannot live without suffering. It is through loving the cross that we discover His Heart, for divine Love never lives without suffering.
– St. Bernadette Soubirous
From the archives:

I adore You, O glorious Cross, which was adorned with the Heart and Body of my Savior Jesus Christ, stained and covered with blood. I adore You, O Holy Cross, out of love for Him, Jesus, who is my Savior and my God.

(Pope Pius IX declared that reciting this prayer five times on Friday will free five souls from Purgatory and 33 souls by reciting it on Good Friday. This prayer should be recited before a crucifix with a contrite heart and praying a few minutes for the Pope.)

Small Things With Great Love

“St. Teresa gave her life to the poorest of the poor,
She brought the love of Christ to the easy to ignore,
Chugga, chugga, choo, choo!
She heard the call while on the train,
the Missionaries of Charity would help to ease their pain.”
St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta Missionaries of Charity Doll Habit from The Little Habit
My girls are amazing! While I slept from 2:00-6:30 pm yesterday (I finally got some of that extra sleep I’d been praying for… I just couldn’t keep my eyes open following the two shots the doctor gave me to stop an allergic reaction to a wasp sting/bite that caused my face to swell… Ouch! Thankfully my 18 year old was around to drive me to and from town and then take his sister to the orthodontist.) my girls baked and decorated Chai Cupcakes for Mother Teresa’s feast day!

You can find all sorts of additional ideas in honor of Mother Teresa in the archives

{pretty, happy, funny, real} :: Fifteen

~ Capturing the context of contentment in everyday life ~

{pretty}
Our beautiful girl turned 15 today!!
{happy}

Most of our focus lately has been on selling the house and getting ready to move, but we took the day off and I was so happy to get to spend some one-on-one time with just the birthday girl.  Dutch Bros for coffee and tea, shopping for new clothes including a pretty new cardigan from Grandma, then lunch at Mod Pizza… It was such a nice day!
Grandpa also stopped by for a little visit and brought us all dinner!
(Mexican take-out including flan for the birthday girl)

She loved all of her birthday gifts! We had hoped to buy her a set of golf clubs (she is still using borrowed clubs from the high school which will need to be returned when we move) but that will have to wait for now… Instead, in addition to some new clothing from our shopping trip, she received a leather tote, pink wristlet, a journal and a water bottle. She also received a box of Reece’s Pieces from her 8 year old sister, a lovely hand-embroider handkerchief made by her 13 year old sister, a new golf shirt from her dad (we all miss him so much but he was able to FaceTime from fire camp!), and lots of cards and phone calls from friends! She also received a card from Fr. Gordon (Uncle Jim) who said he’d be offering his Mass for her today ♥ God bless all of our holy and faithful priests!
{funny}

Fourteen month old “Grace” was such a distraction during our family rosary… 😘🤗😘
(please excuse her pre-bath lack of pjs, this was just too cute not to share)
{real}
Don’t you think real flowers look so pretty on top of cakes?!
I decorated a Chocolate Ganache Cake (Chocolate Cake, Dobash Fudge Filling, Espresso Butter Cream, and Chocolate Ganache) from the bakery with some pink roses for the birthday girl!

Happy 15th Birthday!

On the Solemnity of the Assumption

Assumption Prayer

Holy Mother Mary, we all rejoice with you today on the feast of your glorious Assumption into heaven. Long ago in the Garden of Eden, our first parents, Adam and Eve, we told that they would have to earn their bread in the sweat of the their brow, and that the earth would be cursed, bringing forth thorns and thistles. Now, after Christ our Redeemer has come, and taught us how to make use of the thorns and thistles of this life, and turn them into blessings, you, like Him, have been taken up body and soul into heaven, There, with your divine Son, you await our coming, and prepare a place for us. Mother Mary, it is a great comfort to us to realize that your precious body, the tabernacle of the infant Christ, is now in heaven with Him. Your being taken into heaven is also, like the resurrection of Christ’s body, a pledge to us of the resurrection of our own bodies. It is wonderful to think that these hands, with which we earn our bread now in the sweat of our brow, will, because of the merits of Christ, one day, with our bodies, be glorified forever in heaven. O most pure Virgin Mary, help us to realize this as we go about our work from day to day. Help us to have great respect for these bodies of ours, and for those of others because we recognize in them the temple of the Holy Ghost, and because we look forward to seeing each other, body and soul, with you and you Son Christ forever in heaven. Amen.

Prayer of Mothers

Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me. Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege—to share in your creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.
